Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

create-lando-app

Scaffold a Next.js app pre-wired with the Lando Labs Design System.

Two commands and you're building:

mkdir my-app && cd my-app
npx @lando-labs/create-lando-app

Prefer to name it in one line? Pass a directory instead:

npx @lando-labs/create-lando-app my-app

npm create @lando-labs/lando-app and npx @lando-labs/create-lando-app are the same command — both fetch and run this package.

Options

| Flag | What it does | | --- | --- | | --ai <tools> | Which AI tools to wire: claude, cursor, codex (comma-separated). Defaults to all. --ai none skips AI wiring. | | --force | Scaffold even if the target directory already has files | | --no-mcp | Alias for --ai none | | --no-install | Skip installing dependencies | | -y, --yes | Accept defaults without prompting | | -h, --help | Show usage |

Only use one editor? Wire just that one:

npx create-lando-app --ai cursor
npx create-lando-app --ai claude,codex

Every tool shares one AGENTS.md brief — only the pointers and MCP configs are per-tool, so there's nothing to keep in sync.

Running with no directory scaffolds in place. A fresh mkdir (even after git init) counts as empty — dotfiles are ignored.

What you get

A Next.js App Router project with:

  • @lando-labs/lando-ds installed and imported
  • The golden-path CSS order that keeps a CSS reset from zeroing out DS component spacing (issue #462)
  • Anti-flash theme application via themeScript() in the server <head>
  • A .mcp.json wiring Claude Code / Cursor to the Lando DS MCP server for design-system-aware codegen
  • The nextjs-lando-ds agent at .claude/agents/, ready to build UI by querying the design system through the MCP

The MCP config and the agent are on by default and travel together — the agent's whole method is querying the MCP, so it's inert without it. --no-mcp skips both.

Templates

| Template | Status | | ----------------- | ------------ | | next-app-router | ✅ available | | vite-react | planned |

Development

npm install
npm run build # compiles src/ → dist/
npm run dev # tsc --watch

Templates live in templates/. The @lando-labs/lando-ds version the templates pin is the DS_VERSION constant in src/scaffold.ts. A CI job opens a PR to bump it — and re-run the consumer smoke test — whenever the DS publishes a new release, so the scaffold never drifts from the DS's cascade-layer contract.
