Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@library/react

v0.0.8

Published

A collection of React hooks.

Readme

@library/react

Installation

npm

npm install @library/react

yarn

yarn add @library/react

react (>=18) is a peer dependency and must be installed in your project.

API

useBoolean

Primitive boolean flag with stable action callbacks.

import { useBoolean } from "@library/react";

const { value, setTrue, setFalse, toggle, setValue } = useBoolean(false);

setTrue(); // value becomes true
setFalse(); // value becomes false
toggle(); // value flips
setValue(true); // value set explicitly

useDebounceValue

Debounces a changing value. Follows lodash debounce semantics: with trailing (default) the debounced value updates once delay ms pass without further changes; with leading the first change after an idle period is applied immediately. Both can be combined. With both disabled the debounced value never updates.

import { useDebounceValue } from "@library/react";

const [query, setQuery] = useState("");
const debouncedQuery = useDebounceValue(query, 300);
// debouncedQuery updates 300ms after the user stops typing

const immediate = useDebounceValue(query, 300, {
  leading: true,
  trailing: false,
});
// immediate updates on the first keystroke, then ignores changes for 300ms

useDisclosure

Open/close state for dialogs, popovers, menus, expandable sections.

import { useDisclosure } from "@library/react";

const { isOpen, open, close, toggle, setOpen } = useDisclosure(false);

open(); // isOpen becomes true
close(); // isOpen becomes false
toggle(); // isOpen flips
setOpen(true); // isOpen set explicitly

useScrollReached

Tracks whether a scrollable element has been scrolled to each of its edges. Re-measures on scroll, when the element or any of its direct children resizes (via ResizeObserver), and when direct children are added or removed (via MutationObserver), so content loaded later is accounted for without a scroll. threshold is the pixel tolerance for treating an edge as reached (default 1).

import { useScrollReached } from "@library/react";

const { ref, isAtBottom } = useScrollReached<HTMLDivElement>({ threshold: 8 });

<div ref={ref} style={{ overflow: "auto", height: 300 }}>
  {items}
  {isAtBottom && <LoadMore />}
</div>;
