Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Project-local development harness for coding agents

Readme

harness

Project-local development tools for coding agents.

Install

Run this command from a Git repository or one of its subdirectories:

npx @limchihi/harness install

The installer writes:

.codex/
├── hooks.json
└── hooks/
    └── harness/
        ├── file_size_hint.py
        └── handoff.py
.agents/
└── skills/
    └── imp/
        ├── SKILL.md
        ├── agents/openai.yaml
        └── scripts/start.py

Existing hooks in .codex/hooks.json are preserved. Re-running the command updates the harness-owned hook and skill without adding duplicate configuration. Commit the generated .codex/ and .agents/ files so the tools remain properties of the repository.

After installation, open /hooks in Codex and trust the project hook.

Implementation entry point

$imp #123 accepts a GitHub ticket or a spec composed of tickets. It provides an isolated worktree for each selected ticket and delegates the work to the existing /implement skill. Independent tickets in a spec can be coordinated in parallel.

The bundled start script identifies specs before mutation and reports their ready and blocked tickets. For a leaf ticket, it uses gh to claim the issue and Git to create or recover its task/123 worktree, then reports the worktree, branch state, and existing pull request. Repository-specific worktree initialization remains a property of the target repository.

After implementation, use the repository's normal check command followed by ordinary git commit, git push, and GitHub pull-request tools. Harness does not wrap those operations.

Handoff state

Inspect the current worktree, default-branch relationship, remote publication, and pull request without changing repository state:

npx @limchihi/harness state

The installed Stop hook consumes the same state. It asks the agent to continue when committing, pushing, or opening a pull request is the single clear missing step. While a pull request is open, it keeps the agent monitoring reviews, checks, and mergeability every four minutes so feedback, CI failures, and conflicts are resolved before merge.

File size hints

The hook observes apply_patch edits. It emits context when a file grows by more than 30 lines and ends above one of these thresholds:

  • More than 800 lines: check whether the file still has one responsibility.
  • More than 1,200 lines: extract a coherent responsibility.
  • More than 1,400 lines: split the file before growing it further unless it is generated or data-only.

Files with a suffix in IGNORED_FILE_SUFFIXES are skipped. The blacklist currently contains .lock.

Update

Install a newer package version over the existing project hook:

npx @limchihi/harness@latest install

Development

npm test
npm pack --dry-run
