Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@lisachandra/react-template & @lisachandra/react-router

React utilities for Roblox UIs.

@lisachandra/react-template

Generates React components from existing Roblox Instance hierarchies. Useful for converting ScreenGui layouts into type-safe React templates.

pnpm add @lisachandra/react-template

Peer dependencies: @lisachandra/types, @rbxts/react, @rbxts/services

ReactTemplate.fromInstance

Convert a Roblox Instance tree into a React component:

import ReactTemplate from "@lisachandra/react-template";

const screen = PlayerGui.WaitForChild("MyScreen");
const MyScreen = ReactTemplate.fromInstance(screen);

// Use like any React component
<MyScreen>
  <MyScreen.MyButton />
</MyScreen>

ReactTemplate.fetch

Create computed property values that react to instance changes:

import ReactTemplate from "@lisachandra/react-template";

<MyFrame
  BackgroundColor3={ReactTemplate.fetch(
    (color) => color.Lerp(Color3.fromRGB(255, 0, 0), 0.5),
    "BackgroundColor3"
  )}
/>

ReactTemplate.is

Check if a value is a React template component:

if (ReactTemplate.is(someComponent)) {
  // someComponent is a valid template
}

Type Helpers

import type { TemplateProps, ExtendedInstanceProps } from "@lisachandra/react-template";

// TemplateProps<T> includes children + extended props for any Instance type
const props: TemplateProps<Frame> = { ... };

@lisachandra/react-router

A fork of roact-router ported to @rbxts/react. Provides client-side routing with a History API.

pnpm add @lisachandra/react-router

Peer dependencies: @lisachandra/types, @rbxts/react, @rbxts/lemon-signal, @rbxts/services

Router

import { Router } from "@lisachandra/react-router";

<Router>
  {/* Route-aware children */}
</Router>

Or with a custom History:

const history = new History(["/"]);
<Router history={history} />

useRouter

Access the current location and history from any component:

import { useRouter } from "@lisachandra/react-router";

function MyComponent() {
  const { location, history } = useRouter();
  // location.path, location.state
  // history.push("/new-path")
}

useRouteMatch

Match the current path against a pattern:

import { useRouteMatch } from "@lisachandra/react-router";

const match = useRouteMatch({ path: "/players/:playerId" });
if (match) {
  const playerId = match.playerId; // captured from URL
}

History

Programmatic navigation:

import { History } from "@lisachandra/react-router";

const history = new History(["/"]);
history.push("/settings", { tab: "audio" });
history.goBack();
history.goForward();
history.replace("/new-path");

Path

Pattern matching with parameter capture:

import { Path } from "@lisachandra/react-router";

const path = new Path("/users/:userId/posts/:postId");
const match = path.match("/users/42/posts/99");
// match = { userId: "42", postId: "99" }
