Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.0

LogFrog API tracing middleware for Node.js — Express and Fastify request tracing shipped to your LogFrog dashboard.

Readme

@logfrog/node

Request tracing middleware for LogFrog. Records every HTTP request your API serves — method, route, status, duration, client IP — and ships it in batches to your LogFrog Traces dashboard.

Supports Express (v4/v5) and Fastify (v4/v5). Zero runtime dependencies; uses the built-in fetch (Node 18+).

Install

npm install @logfrog/node

Express

import express from "express";
import { logfrogExpressMiddleware } from "@logfrog/node/express";

const app = express();

app.use(logfrogExpressMiddleware({
  ingestUrl: "https://api.logfrog.io/api/ingest/traces/<your-token>",
  service: "my-api",
}));

// …your routes

Your ingest URL (with the project token baked in) is on the Traces page of your LogFrog dashboard.

Fastify

import Fastify from "fastify";
import { registerLogfrogFastify } from "@logfrog/node/fastify";

const app = Fastify();

registerLogfrogFastify(app, {
  ingestUrl: "https://api.logfrog.io/api/ingest/traces/<your-token>",
  service: "my-api",
});

// …your routes

registerLogfrogFastify returns the underlying tracer and automatically flushes pending spans when the Fastify instance closes.

Options

Both middlewares accept:

| option | type | description | | --- | --- | --- | | ingestUrl | string (required) | Your project's trace ingest URL from the dashboard. | | service | string | Service name shown in the Traces UI. | | ignore | (req) => boolean | Return true to skip recording a request (e.g. health checks). | | routeResolver | (req) => string \| undefined | Express only — override route template detection. |

Spans are batched (25 per POST) and flushed every 2 seconds. Failed batches are retried on the next flush with a bounded queue, so LogFrog outages never back-pressure your API.

Custom spans

For anything that isn't Express/Fastify, use the tracer directly:

import { createLogfrogTracer } from "@logfrog/node";

const tracer = createLogfrogTracer({
  ingestUrl: "https://api.logfrog.io/api/ingest/traces/<your-token>",
  service: "worker",
});

tracer.record({
  method: "POST",
  path: "/jobs/resize-image",
  status_code: 200,
  duration_ms: 132,
  timestamp: Date.now(),
});

// on shutdown
await tracer.flush();
tracer.stop();
