Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Preview and analyze CSV/TSV files in the terminal — table view, column types, stats — zero dependencies

csv-peek

Zero dependencies Node License: MIT Platform

Preview and analyze CSV/TSV files in the terminal. Shows a formatted table, infers column types, and optionally computes basic statistics. Zero dependencies.

Why?

csvkit needs Python. xsv needs Rust. Excel needs Excel. csv-peek runs anywhere Node.js is installed.

Install

npm install -g csv-peek

Or without installing:

npx csv-peek data.csv

Usage

csv-peek data.csv # Preview first 10 rows
csv-peek data.csv --rows 25 # Preview 25 rows
csv-peek data.csv --stats # Include column statistics
csv-peek data.csv --cols "name,age" # Show specific columns only
csv-peek data.tsv --delimiter tab # Force delimiter
csv-peek data.csv --json # Output as JSON

Example Output

csv-peek users.csv
  1,234 rows · 6 columns · delimiter: "," · 48.2KB

  id:number name:string email:string age:number country:string active:boolean

  ┌──────┬───────────────────┬──────────────────────────┬─────┬─────────┬────────┐
  │ id │ name │ email │ age │ country │ active │
  ├──────┼───────────────────┼──────────────────────────┼─────┼─────────┼────────┤
  │ 1 │ Alice Johnson │ [email protected] │ 32 │ US │ true │
  │ 2 │ Bob Smith │ [email protected] │ 28 │ UK │ true │
  │ 3 │ Carol White │ [email protected] │ 45 │ CA │ false │
  └──────┴───────────────────┴──────────────────────────┴─────┴─────────┴────────┘

Showing 10 of 1,234 rows. Use --rows 1234 to see all.

With --stats:

  id number
    min: 1 max: 1,234 avg: 617.50 missing: 0

Scan your dependencies for free

This tool has zero dependencies by design — but your other projects might not be so lean. DepWarden scans any package.json, pom.xml, requirements.txt, go.mod, or lockfile for vulnerabilities, licence issues, and supply-chain risks. Anonymous, no account needed, results in seconds.
