Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Form DevPack

Overview

Form DevPack is a streamlined toolkit for setting up form handling in React and React Native projects. It provides a pre-configured setup with best practices for form validation, state management, and typed form controls.

Features

  • 🚀 Quick setup for both React and React Native projects
  • 📋 Pre-configured form validation using Zod schemas
  • 🔄 Controlled form components with React Hook Form
  • 🧩 Type-safe form handling with TypeScript
  • 🎨 Customizable input components

Installation

npx @lucaserthal/form-devpack

Follow the interactive prompts to select:

  1. Your preferred package manager (npm or yarn)
  2. Your project type (React or React Native)

What's Included

Form DevPack automatically installs and configures:

  • react-hook-form: For efficient form state management
  • zod: For schema validation
  • @hookform/resolvers: For connecting Zod with React Hook Form

Components

  • ControlledInput: A wrapper component that connects your input fields to React Hook Form
  • CustomInput: A base input component that can be styled according to your needs
  • Form schemas: Pre-configured form using Zod schemas and React Hook Form as 'form-hook' snippet for vscode. If youre not using vscode, you can just delete the .vscode folder.

Usage Example

Generate a form hook using 'form-hook' snippet and edit as you wish

import { zodResolver } from '@hookform/resolvers/zod';
import { useForm } from 'react-hook-form';
import { z } from 'zod';

const defaultSchema = z.object({
  name: z.string().min(3).max(20),
  email: z.string(),
});

type DefaultSchema = z.infer<typeof defaultSchema>;

export function defaultForm() {
  const {
    control,
    handleSubmit,
    formState: { errors },
  } = useForm({ resolver: zodResolver<DefaultSchema>(defaultSchema) });

  return {
    control,
    handleSubmit,
    errors,
  };
}

Use it with ControlledInput component

import { DefaultSchema, useDefaultForm } from '../hooks/form';
import { ControlledInput } from './shared/controlled-input.component';

export function LoginScreen() {
  const form = useDefaultForm();

  function onSubmit(data: DefaultSchema) {
    console.log(data);
    // Handle form submission
  };

  return (
    <form onSubmit={form.handleSubmit(onSubmit)}>
      <ControlledInput
        control={form.control}
        name="email"
        label="Email"
        errors={form.errors}
      />
      <ControlledInput
        control={form.control}
        name="password"
        label="Password"
        type="password"
        errors={form.errors}
      />
      <button type="submit">Login</button>
    </form>
  );
}

Customization

You can easily extend the provided components and schemas to fit your project's specific needs. The toolkit is designed to be a starting point that follows best practices while remaining flexible.
