Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Express adapter for the Luna framework — HTTP routing and exception handling

Readme

Installation

npm install @lunafw/core @lunafw/common @lunafw/platform-express reflect-metadata express

Usage

import { LunaFactory } from '@lunafw/common'
import { ExpressAdapter } from '@lunafw/platform-express'

import { AppModule } from './app.module'

const bootstrap = async (): Promise<void> => {
  const app = await LunaFactory.createApplication(
    AppModule,
    new ExpressAdapter({ port: 3000 })
  )

	await app.start()
}
bootstrap()

Controllers

import { Injectable } from '@lunafw/core'
import { Controller, LunaMessage, On } from '@lunafw/common'
import { NotFoundException } from '@lunafw/platform-express'

@Injectable()
@Controller('users')
export class UserController {
  constructor(private readonly userService: UserService) {}

  @On('get', '/')
  findAll(_message: LunaMessage) {
    return this.userService.findAll()
  }

  @On('get', '/:id')
  findOne(message: LunaMessage) {
    const { id } = message.metadata.params as { id: string }
    const user = this.userService.findOne(id)
    if (!user) throw new NotFoundException(`User ${id} not found`)
    return user
  }

  @On('post', '/')
  create(message: LunaMessage) {
    return this.userService.create(message.payload)
  }
}

HTTP Exceptions

Throw any exception subclass from a handler and the adapter maps it to the correct HTTP status automatically.

import {
  BadRequestException,          // 400
  UnauthorizedException,        // 401
  ForbiddenException,           // 403
  NotFoundException,            // 404
  MethodNotAllowedException,    // 405
  RequestTimeoutException,      // 408
  ConflictException,            // 409
  GoneException,                // 410
  UnprocessableEntityException, // 422
  TooManyRequestsException,     // 429
  InternalServerErrorException, // 500
  NotImplementedException,      // 501
  ServiceUnavailableException,  // 503
} from '@lunafw/platform-express'

throw new NotFoundException('User not found')
// → 404 { statusCode: 404, message: 'User not found' }

All exceptions accept an optional custom message:

throw new ConflictException('Email already in use')
// → 409 { statusCode: 409, message: 'Email already in use' }

Custom Exceptions

import { HttpException } from '@lunafw/platform-express'

export class PaymentRequiredException extends HttpException {
  constructor(message = 'Payment Required') {
    super(402, message)
  }
}

API

new ExpressAdapter(options)

| Option | Type | Description | |--------|------|-------------| | port | number | Port to listen on. Pass 0 to let the OS assign a free port. |

adapter.getPort(): number

Returns the TCP port the server is currently bound to. Useful when port: 0 was passed.

const adapter = new ExpressAdapter({ port: 0 })
await app.start()
console.log(adapter.getPort()) // e.g. 54321
