Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

UnStyle: An MCP server for providing AI UI themes.

Readme

UnStyle

An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server designed to help LLMs generate beautiful, non-generic, and consistent UI designs. Instead of default Tailwind styles, this tool provides strict aesthetic guidelines, inspiration, rules, and component specifications for specific design themes.

Example: Before & After

With the same prompt "Create a landing page":

Before using UnStyle (Generic Tailwind) Before

After using UnStyle (Brutal Theme) After

Available Themes

  • brutal: Neo-Brutalism (raw, high contrast, thick borders)
  • pro: Professional/Enterprise (Linear/Stripe aesthetic, muted, subtle)
  • fun: Playful/Consumer (bouncy, rounded, colorful)
  • cyberpunk: High-tech (neon, dark mode, glitchy)
  • minimal: Bare minimum (whitespace, grayscale, typography focused)
  • editorial: Magazine-inspired storytelling (typography-first, elegant hierarchy)
  • glass: Glassmorphism (translucent layers, blur, premium depth)
  • nature: Organic and calm (earth tones, approachable, mindful)

Design Standards Behind the Themes

Theme guidance now follows broad best practices from established design systems:

  • Clear hierarchy and consistency in spacing/typography systems
  • Explicit accessibility checks (WCAG contrast and focus visibility)
  • Structured interaction states (default/hover/focus/disabled/error)
  • Motion guidance that balances personality with usability

Quickstart

You can use the server immediately without installing it globally or cloning the repository by using npx:

Using with AI IDEs (Cursor, Antigravity, etc.)

Add the following to your mcp_config.json or equivalent configuration file:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "unstyle": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@m0xoo/unstyle"]
    }
  }
}

Testing locally with the MCP Inspector

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector npx -y @m0xoo/unstyle

Using with Cursor

To use this server in Cursor, you need to add it to your Agent config.

  1. Open Cursor Settings (Cmd/Ctrl + ,)
  2. Navigate to Features -> MCP Servers
  3. Click + Add new MCP server
  4. Configure as follows:
    • Name: unstyle (or whatever you prefer)
    • Type: command
    • Command: npx
    • Args: ["-y", "@m0xoo/unstyle"]
  5. Save and ensure the status shows green/connected!

Now, when prompting Cursor's Composer or Agent, you can say:

"Build a login page and use the get_theme_guidelines tool with the 'brutal' theme to style it."
