Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@markdown-utils/msvg-core

v0.1.0

Published

MSVG core parser, normalizer, and validator

Readme

@markdown-utils/msvg-core

The core of MSVG. This package reads the MSVG language (YAML written inside Markdown msvg blocks or standalone files), turns it into a normalized, fully typed diagram model, and validates it. It has no rendering code and no dependency on SVG, Astro, remark, markdown-it, or the CLI.

MSVG turns small text descriptions into static, accessible SVG diagrams for technical writing. See the project README for the full picture.

Installation

npm install @markdown-utils/msvg-core

Usage

The simplest entry point is parseAndValidate. It parses the source, normalizes it, validates it, and returns the diagram plus diagnostics.

import { parseAndValidate } from "@markdown-utils/msvg-core";

const result = parseAndValidate(`
type: flow
title: "Pipeline"
direction: LR
nodes:
  a:
    label: "Source"
  b:
    label: "Output"
edges:
  - a -> b: "build"
`);

if (result.valid && result.diagram) {
  console.log(result.diagram.type);
} else {
  console.error(result.diagnostics);
}

API

| Export | Description | |---|---| | parseMSVG(source, options?) | Parses raw YAML or JSON source into a raw object with diagnostics. | | normalizeDiagram(input, options?) | Normalizes a raw object into the canonical diagram model. | | validateDiagram(diagram, options?) | Validates a normalized diagram and reports diagnostics. | | parseAndValidate(source, options?) | Runs parsing, normalization, and validation in one step. | | parseEdgeShorthand, parseEdgeList, parseConnectionList | Helpers for the a -> b edge shorthand. | | DiagCodes, makeDiagnostic, errorDiag, warnDiag, infoDiag, hasErrors | Diagnostic helpers. |

The package also exports TypeScript types for every diagram type and for the parse, normalize, and validate options and results.

What it validates

  • type is a supported diagram type and title is present.
  • Ids are stable, URL-safe, and unique within a diagram.
  • Edges, connections, and messages reference existing nodes, components, or participants.
  • Duplicate ids and empty diagrams are reported as errors.
  • Unknown fields are reported as warnings.
  • All user text is treated as plain text, never as raw HTML.
