Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MSVG SVG layout engine and renderer

Readme

@markdown-utils/msvg-svg

The renderer for MSVG. This package takes a normalized diagram model from @markdown-utils/msvg-core, computes a deterministic layout, and produces a static, accessible SVG string. It uses no browser, no runtime JavaScript, and no external fonts or images.

MSVG turns small text descriptions into static, accessible SVG diagrams for technical writing. See the project README for the full picture.

Installation

npm install @markdown-utils/msvg-svg @markdown-utils/msvg-core

Usage

import { parseAndValidate } from "@markdown-utils/msvg-core";
import { renderSvg } from "@markdown-utils/msvg-svg";

const parsed = parseAndValidate(`
type: layers
title: "Architecture"
direction: top-down
layers:
  - label: "Markdown"
  - label: "Layout"
  - label: "SVG"
`);

if (parsed.valid && parsed.diagram) {
  const { svg, diagnostics, theme } = renderSvg(parsed.diagram, { theme: "dark" });
  console.log(svg);
}

API

| Export | Description | |---|---| | renderSvg(diagram, options?) | Renders a diagram to an SVG string with diagnostics and the resolved theme. | | layoutDiagram(diagram, options?) | Returns the computed layout without producing SVG. | | resolveTheme(input?) | Resolves a built-in theme name or custom tokens into a complete theme. | | BUILT_IN_THEME_NAMES | The list of built-in theme names. | | escapeXml, escapeAttr, safeSvgId, sanitizeText | Safety helpers for text and ids. | | wrapText, estimateTextWidth, textBlockHeight, maxLineWidth | Text measurement and wrapping helpers. | | FONT_SIZE, DESC_FONT_SIZE, LINE_HEIGHT, CHAR_WIDTH_APPROX | Layout constants. |

Output guarantees

  • Every SVG includes xmlns, a viewBox, and a <title>.
  • A <desc> is included when a description is provided or generated.
  • All user text is escaped, and ids are scoped per diagram.
  • Output is deterministic for the same input.
  • The SVG never contains <script>, event handlers, remote URLs, remote fonts, or external images.

Themes

Built-in themes are paper (default), neutral, mono, and dark. Custom theme tokens are accepted, but only validated tokens are used so a theme can never inject unsafe content.
