Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@matfire/astro-directives

v0.2.0

Published

Use Sätteri Markdown directives as Astro components in content collections.

@matfire/astro-directives

Open on npmx.dev Open on npmx.dev

Use ordinary .md content collection entries with Sätteri directives backed by Astro components. Container, leaf, and inline directive children are rendered as the component's default slot.

Install

npm install @matfire/astro-directives

Astro 7.1 or newer is required. The package uses Astro's default Sätteri Markdown processor.

Configure

// astro.config.mjs
import { defineConfig } from "astro/config";
import { satteri } from "@astrojs/markdown-satteri";
import astroDirectives from "@matfire/astro-directives";

export default defineConfig({
  markdown: {
    processor: satteri({
      features: { directive: true },
    }),
  },
  integrations: [
    astroDirectives({
      // throwOnUnknownDirectives: false, // Leave unknown directives untouched.
      components: {
        callout: "./src/components/Callout.astro",
        youtube: "./src/components/Youtube.astro",
      },
    }),
  ],
});

The integration validates this setting but does not modify the configured Markdown processor. Existing Sätteri plugins and features remain under your control.

Relative component paths resolve from the Astro project root. Absolute paths, URL values, and package specifiers are passed through.

Use the registered names in content collection Markdown:

:::callout{type="warning" #permissions .wide}
This **Markdown** becomes the component's default slot.
:::

::youtube{id="dQw4w9WgXcQ"}

Text with an :badge[inline component]{tone="positive"}.

Attribute values remain strings. Bare attributes become true, and {#id} / {.class} shorthand is passed as id / class props.

Unregistered directive names fail the build with their Markdown location by default. Set throwOnUnknownDirectives: false to leave unknown directive nodes untouched. This integration does not render unknown directives itself.

This initial release supports deferred .md content collection rendering. Markdown pages and direct .md imports are not part of the supported API.

Standalone Sätteri plugin

The directive-to-sentinel plugin is available separately for custom Sätteri pipelines:

import { markdownToHtml } from "satteri";
import createAstroDirectivesPlugin from "@matfire/astro-directives/satteri";

const result = await markdownToHtml(source, {
  features: { directive: true },
  mdastPlugins: [
    createAstroDirectivesPlugin({
      directives: ["callout", "youtube"],
      throwOnUnknownDirectives: false,
    }),
  ],
});

The emitted elements are internal transport markers intended for the main Astro integration to consume.
