Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Meterbus Wired Data-Link for Node.js

npm License Node.js 24+ ESM

Native wired M-Bus data-link frames and codecs for Node.js.

This package provides typed, validated frame construction plus exact and streaming decoders for the wired M-Bus link layer defined by EN 13757-2:2018+A1:2023. It uses a native Node-API addon generated from the meterbus-wired-datalink Rust crate.

Highlights

  • ACK, NACK, short, control, and long frame formats
  • Exact decoding for complete frames
  • Incremental decoding across arbitrary byte chunks
  • Strict and noise-resynchronizing stream recovery
  • Typed Frame, StreamDecoder, and recovery results
  • Uint8Array input and output
  • Native Node-API implementation
  • ESM-only package with generated TypeScript declarations
  • TypeScript examples

Installation

Add the package with pnpm:

pnpm add @meterbus/wired-datalink-node

Node.js 24 or newer is required.

Usage

Construct, encode, and decode a REQ-UD2 short frame:

import { Frame } from "@meterbus/wired-datalink-node";

const request = Frame.short(0x5b, 1);
const encoded = request.encode();
const decoded = Frame.decode(encoded);

console.log(decoded.kind); // "short"

Decode frames incrementally:

import { StreamDecoder } from "@meterbus/wired-datalink-node";

const decoder = new StreamDecoder();
decoder.push(Uint8Array.of(0x10, 0x5b));

const result = decoder.push(Uint8Array.of(0x01, 0x5c, 0x16));
console.log(result.frames[0].kind); // "short"

Errors

Every data-link failure has a concrete error type with fields describing the invalid input. All concrete errors extend DatalinkError.

import { Frame, UnknownStartByteError } from "@meterbus/wired-datalink-node";

try {
  Frame.decode(Uint8Array.of(0xff));
} catch (error) {
  if (error instanceof UnknownStartByteError) {
    console.log(error.actual); // 255
  }
}
