Windows Admin Center SDK

@microsoft/windows-admin-center-sdk is the official SDK for building and maintaining Windows Admin Center extensions. It bundles the WAC runtime libraries, the shared build/lint tooling, and the wac command-line tool used to scaffold and upgrade extensions.

Requirements

• Node.js 24 or later (the wac CLI and the Angular 20 toolchain require it).
• A package manager (npm, pnpm, or yarn).

Install

npm install @microsoft/windows-admin-center-sdk

This makes the wac command available (via npx wac …, or on your PATH when installed globally).

Create an extension

Scaffold a new extension project (Angular 20) in the current directory:

# A single tool extension
npx wac create --company <company-name> --name <tool-name>

# A solution containing one or more tools
npx wac create --company <company-name> --solution <solution-name> --tool <tool-name> --type <tool-type>

Then build and serve:

cd <tool-name>
npm install
npm run build
npm start -- --port=4200

Upgrade an extension

Upgrade an existing extension to the current Angular/toolchain baseline (Angular 15 → 20, Node 24), run from the extension's root:

npx wac upgrade

Import the runtime libraries by subpath:

What's new in 6.0.0

6.0.0 modernizes the SDK toolchain. It contains breaking changes — review before upgrading.

Breaking changes

• wac CLI now has two commands: create and upgrade. The 5.x commands eslint (tslint→eslint migration) and angular15Upgrade were removed. The Angular migration now lives under wac upgrade (Angular 15 → 20), and lint fixes run as a stage of wac upgrade.
• wac upgrade changed meaning. In 5.x it audited/updated dependencies (--audit, UpgradeAudit.txt); it now performs the Angular 15 → 20 toolchain migration (--stage, --pipeline, --internal, --debug).
• wac create scaffolds Angular 20 projects (was Angular 15).
• Node.js 24+ is required to run the wac CLI (no Node floor was declared in 5.x).
• …/core/copilot was renamed to …/core/assistant. Update imports accordingly.
