Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v1.0.1

Published

Top navigation app shell: brand link + horizontal NavLinks + UserMenu slot, with React Router Outlet for nested routes

Readme

@molecule/app-top-nav-layout-react

Auto-generated, AI-first package reference for the molecule.dev ecosystem. It is written to be read by coding agents as much as by people, and is generated from this package's source — edit src/index.ts JSDoc, not this file.

Top-navigation app shell layout for routed React apps.

Exports <TopNavLayout> — sticky header with brand link + horizontal NavLinks + a user-menu slot, plus <main> rendering React Router's <Outlet /> — and the TopNavItem / TopNavLayoutProps types.

Quick Start

import { TopNavLayout, type TopNavItem } from '@molecule/app-top-nav-layout-react'

const NAV: TopNavItem[] = [
  { key: 'dashboard', to: '/dashboard', icon: 'dashboard', label: 'Dashboard' },
  { key: 'reports', to: '/reports', icon: 'bar_chart', label: 'Reports' },
]

const userMenu = <button type="button">Account</button>

<TopNavLayout appName="Acme" navItems={NAV} userMenu={userMenu} />

Type

feature

Installation

npm install @molecule/app-top-nav-layout-react @molecule/app-react @molecule/app-ui react react-router
npm install -D @types/react

API

Interfaces

TopNavItem

A single navigation item rendered in the top nav bar.

interface TopNavItem {
  /** Route path the link goes to. */
  to: string
  /** Stable key — used for React keys and i18n key suffix. */
  key: string
  /** Material symbol icon name (or any glyph) shown next to the label. */
  icon?: string
  /** Visible label. Apps that route this through `t(...)` should pass the resolved string. */
  label: string
}

TopNavLayoutProps

Props for the {@link TopNavLayout} shell component.

interface TopNavLayoutProps {
  /** Brand text shown in the top-left link (typically the app name). */
  appName: string
  /** Path the brand link navigates to. Defaults to `'/'`. */
  logoTo?: string
  /** Horizontal nav items rendered in the header. */
  navItems: ReadonlyArray<TopNavItem>
  /** Slot rendered at the right of the header (typically a `<UserMenu />`). */
  userMenu?: ReactNode
  /** Aria-label for the primary <nav>. */
  navAriaLabel?: string
  /** Extra classes on the outer wrapper. */
  className?: string
  /** `data-mol-id` for AI-agent selectors. */
  dataMolId?: string
}

Functions

TopNavLayout(props)

Sticky top-nav shell with brand + horizontal nav + user-menu slot.

function TopNavLayout({
  appName,
  logoTo = '/',
  navItems,
  userMenu,
  navAriaLabel = 'Primary navigation',
  className,
  dataMolId,
}: TopNavLayoutProps): JSX.Element
  • props — Component props (see {@link TopNavLayoutProps}).

Injection Notes

Requirements

Peer dependencies:

  • @molecule/app-react ^1.0.1
  • @molecule/app-ui ^1.0.1
  • react ^18.0.0 || ^19.0.0
  • react-router ^7.0.0 || ^8.0.0

Runtime Dependencies

  • @molecule/app-react
  • @molecule/app-ui
  • react
  • react-router

Requires React Router: render it as a LAYOUT ROUTE element (<Route element={<TopNavLayout ... />}> with child routes) — the page body comes from the router <Outlet />, never from children. Nav labels are hidden below the md breakpoint (icon-only mobile nav), so always provide icon names; they render as Material Symbols ligatures and need the Material Symbols font loaded by the host app. Styling mixes ClassMap calls with raw Tailwind + Material-3 tokens (bg-surface, bg-primary-container, hidden md:inline), so a Tailwind build that source-scans this package's dist and a theme defining those tokens are prerequisites — under a non-Tailwind ClassMap bond the header renders unstyled. label is rendered as-is: pass an already-translated string.
