Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Mosetta IDE

@mosetta/ide · An IDE made of plugins — not an IDE with plugins. npx @mosetta/ide opens the current folder in your browser.

What it does

This is the installable IDE: the daemon (@mosetta/ide-server), the built interface, and every plugin that ships with it. One command starts the daemon on a local port, serves the interface from the same port, and opens a browser tab on the folder.

npx @mosetta/ide # the current folder
npx @mosetta/ide ~/code/my-app # another folder
npx @mosetta/ide --port 4300 # a port of your own (default: the first free one from 4177)
npx @mosetta/ide --no-open # print the address instead of opening a browser
npx @mosetta/ide --verbose # print the daemon's whole log

Or install it once: npm install -g @mosetta/ide, then mosetta-ide.

As a native app, if you would rather have an icon than a terminal tab:

npx @mosetta/ide install # builds it on your machine and starts it
npx @mosetta/ide start
npx @mosetta/ide uninstall

That hands over to @mosetta/ide-desktop, which carries Electron; a browser run does not download it.

  • Node.js 22 or newer. TypeScript checking works out of the box; git features need git on your PATH.
  • Local only. The daemon listens on 127.0.0.1 and accepts pages from local addresses only.
  • Your settings live in ~/.mosetta/ide/config/settings.json — the same file the desktop app uses; IDE_CONFIG_DIR points elsewhere.
  • Terminals and language servers live in the daemon: reload the tab and they are still there. Stopping the command stops them.

Using it from another plugin

The IDE is the plugins listed in its settings, plugins.enabled; each has a README saying what it does and how to use it from another plugin. Start with the contract, @mosetta/ide-api. Installing third-party plugins from npm is on the roadmap.
