Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

npm scripts

@mosetta/ide-plugin-npm-scripts · Every script of every package.json in the project, one key away, each run in its own terminal.

What it does

The plugin finds the scripts in every package.json of the project — in a monorepo too — and offers them in a window: type to filter, Enter to run. A script runs in a terminal named after it, so running it again reuses that terminal rather than opening another.

  • Scripts are search hits too: npm dev in search everywhere runs the dev script.
  • The package manager is the one the project suggests by its lock file (pnpm, yarn, bun or npm), or the one you pick; the choice is shown on the toolbar.
  • Actions next to a script: the debugger adds debug, and any plugin can add more.

Keys

| Command | macOS | Windows and Linux | |---|---|---| | scripts.open — the scripts window | Cmd Cmd, Cmd+Shift+S | Ctrl+Shift+S | | scripts.packageManager — choose the package manager | Cmd+Shift+P | Ctrl+Shift+P |

Settings

Section tools in settings.json:

| Key | Default | What it does | |---|---|---| | packageManager | empty — as the project decides | npm, pnpm, yarn or bun. |

Using it from another plugin

import NpmScripts from '@mosetta/ide-plugin-npm-scripts';

const npm = this.ide.getPlugin(NpmScripts);

npm.scripts();                         // [{ id: 'pasture::test', script: 'test', command: 'vitest run', path: 'package.json' }]
await npm.run('pasture::test'); // run it in its terminal
const plan = await npm.plan('pasture::dev'); // { command, argv, cwd } — what would run, without running it

A script's id is <package name>::<script>. plan is how the debugger runs a script under the debugger with the same command the terminal would use.

Add an action to every script in the window with the scripts.action key: id, a dictionary key for the title, an icon, and run(scriptId).

this.ide.registry('scripts.action').add({
  id: 'notes.time',
  title: 'notes.time',
  icon: () => <ClockIcon />,
  run: (scriptId: string) => this.timed(scriptId),
});
