Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

steam mcp

Steam store search, prices and discounts, app details, and game news. Uses Steam's keyless store + news endpoints.

Tools

  • search_games, Search the Steam store by title. Returns appids with current prices and discounts.
  • get_game_details, Get details for a Steam app: price/discount, release date, developers, genres, Metacritic, description.
  • get_game_news, Fetch recent Steam news posts for a game.
  • reviews, Review totals for a game: total, positive and negative counts plus the summary label.
  • players, How many players are in a game right now.
  • topsellers, Current Steam top sellers with prices and discounts.
  • store_highlights, What Steam is pushing today: everything on sale with its discount, this week's new releases and the coming-soon list, in one call.
  • sales_check, Check up to 15 app ids for a current discount and report the biggest one - how a wishlist is reviewed before a sale ends.
  • player_count_rank, Live concurrent player counts for up to 15 games, ranked, so a shortlist can be compared on what is actually being played now.

Run

npm install && npm run build && node dist/index.js

Example

"What's Helldivers 2 cost and is it on sale?" search_games("helldivers") → get_game_details(553850)

"What's new for Cyberpunk?" get_game_news(1091500)

Quick start

npm install
npm run build
node dist/index.js

The server uses stdio, so it can be connected to Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, MCP Inspector, or another compatible MCP client.

Tools at a glance

  • search_games: Search the Steam store by title. Returns appids with current prices
  • get_game_details: Get details for a Steam app: price/discount, release date,
  • get_game_news: Fetch recent Steam news posts for a game.

Limits and privacy

This project is intentionally narrow. It should be treated as a practical helper, not a complete certification or security audit. Check the implementation and the returned data before using it with sensitive material. No credentials are required unless the project explicitly says otherwise.

Try it

After building, connect the server through your MCP client. The repository root also contains smoke-test.mjs for projects covered by the shared harness. A typical tool call starts with search_games.

Premium tools

These tools need a licence key:

  • game_requirements
  • game_dlc_cost

The tool bodies run on our gateway, not inside this package, so the key is what buys access. Buy one at https://buy.polar.sh/polar_cl_mrO7rS5LZxpqM7oAFFEA10i9121J240U40IIj4JRZO4 and set it in your MCP client config:

"env": { "MCP_LICENSE_KEY": "polar_..." }

The gateway checks the key against Polar and gives every key 1,000 free premium calls a month before per-call billing starts. Every other tool on this server stays free.
