Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Issue tracking over the public GitLab API - no API key.

Tools

  • search_projects — Find public GitLab projects by name and list their stars, open issue count and description. No API key or account needed.
  • project_issues — List issues in a public project filtered by state, labels and free-text search, newest first, with assignees and comment counts.
  • issue_detail — Fetch one issue by its project-internal number and return the full description, labels, assignees, dates and comment count.
  • merge_requests — List the merge requests in a project filtered by state, with the author, branches, last update and comment count, so you can see the work behind an issue.
  • group_issues — List the newest issues across every project in a GitLab group at once, with state, labels, assignees and the project each came from.
  • issue_stats — Summarise a project's issue tracker: open versus closed, close rate, unassigned count, label breakdown, neglected issues and stale open issues.
  • recent_issues — Show the open issues that changed most recently in a project, so you can see what the team is actually working on.

Setup

No setup for public projects. Setting GITLAB_TOKEN raises the rate limit and unlocks private projects, but nothing here requires it.

Premium tools

These tools need a license key:

  • public_registry

Buy a key at https://mcp-marketplace.io/server/io-github-mrfentmen-youtrack-mcp and set it in your MCP client config:

"env": { "MCP_LICENSE_KEY": "mcp_live_..." }

The key is checked against MCP Marketplace, cached for 24 hours, and keeps working offline once one check has succeeded. Every other tool on this server stays free.
