Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

MCP server for safe iOS Simulator build, launch, screenshot, and app-control workflows

iOS Simulator runtime and sidebar preview

Published as @nagarjuna2002/[email protected]. Requires a Mac with full Xcode and an installed iOS Simulator runtime. The unscoped npm package is a different project.

Run as a local MCP server:

npx -y @nagarjuna2002/[email protected]

Call simulator_environment to discover actual device support, simulator_list to select a UDID, and simulator_show to boot/wait/open it. Build, install and launch the app, then call simulator_preview_start and open the returned URL in your browser/sidebar. Use simulator_preview_stop to close it.

For a booted device, start the viewer directly:

npx -y @nagarjuna2002/[email protected] --viewer DEVICE-UDID

The viewer refreshes screenshots. Touch and keyboard interaction happen in the native Simulator window. It binds only to loopback, uses a private URL token, and has no HTTP app-control endpoints. It is not a cloud-hosted simulator. Stop with Ctrl-C; closing a viewer does not shut down its device.

The 14 MCP tools cover environment/device discovery, native window display, preview start/stop, boot/shutdown, project build/tests, app install/launch/termination, deep links and screenshots. screenshot can optionally return a PNG image with includeImage: true; by default it reports the saved file. No tool erases a device. No runtime or Xcode download happens automatically.

Duo profiles are discovered from installed Xcode, not hardcoded. Apple described Duo Device Hub support as upcoming on September 9, 2026; inspect your local environment before claiming support.

Full workflow and client configuration: simulator guide. Current Duo guidance: iPhone Duo.

From source, run npm ci, npm run build, npm test, then node dist/index.js. Unit tests exercise fake command runners and a real loopback viewer; actual Xcode/device evidence must be reported separately.
