Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

HowToFix

HowToFix is a minimal, extensible agent harness that you can make your own.

Adapt HowToFix to your workflows, not the other way around. Customize HowToFix with extensions, skills, prompt templates, and themes. Bundle them as HowToFix packages and share via npm or git.

HowToFix ships with powerful defaults but skips features like sub-agents and plan mode. Ask HowToFix to build what you want, or install a package that does it your way.

Use HowToFix interactively, automate it in print or JSON mode, control it over RPC, or build apps with the HowToFix TypeScript SDK. See OpenClaw for a real-world integration.

Getting started

Install the command-line interface:

curl -fsSL https://howtofix.id/install.sh | sh

On Windows:

powershell -c "irm https://howtofix.id/install.ps1 | iex"

The installer pins all dependencies and updates HowToFix with hxf update. Alternatively, install directly with npm, which does not pin transitive dependencies:

npm install -g --ignore-scripts @netrodev/hxf-coding-agent

HowToFix requires Node.js 22.19 or newer. The macOS, Linux, and Windows installers can install it if needed. HowToFix does not require dependency lifecycle scripts for a normal npm installation.

On macOS and Linux, Nix users can install the latest release with nix profile add github:NetroIndonesia/howtofix-harness/stable. See the quickstart for updating and pinning releases.

Start HowToFix in the directory where you want it to work:

cd /path/to/project
hxf

For a built-in AI provider, run /login inside HowToFix to connect a subscription or API key. Then give HowToFix a task.

Sharing sessions

This is a private fork. Session sharing is disabled by default: the session-upload path points at a reserved non-resolving host, so nothing leaves the machine until a gateway is configured deliberately (HXF_RADIUS_GATEWAY).

Development

Clone the repository, install its dependencies, and run HowToFix from source:

cd hxf
npm install --ignore-scripts
./hxf-test.sh

hxf-test.sh can be called from any directory and preserves the caller's working directory.

Before submitting changes, run:

npm run check
./test.sh

Read CONTRIBUTING.md before opening an issue or pull request. It defines the contribution gate, issue quality bar, and required checks. Read AGENTS.md for repository-specific implementation, testing, dependency, and release rules.
