Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@next-model/graphql-api

v1.2.1

Published

GraphQL schema generator for next-model. Turns any Model into CRUD queries + mutations with per-operation authorization and response mapping hooks.

Readme

@next-model/graphql-api

Turn any @next-model/core Model into a GraphQL resource — typeDefs + resolvers for six default operations (list, get, count, create, update, delete) with per-operation authorization and per-row response mapping.

Runtime-agnostic: you get back { typeDefs, resolvers } and plug them into whatever GraphQL server you already use (graphql-http, Apollo, Yoga, …).

pnpm add @next-model/graphql-api graphql @graphql-tools/schema
# or: npm install @next-model/graphql-api graphql @graphql-tools/schema

Getting started

import { makeExecutableSchema } from '@graphql-tools/schema';
import { Model, SqliteConnector } from '@next-model/core';
import { buildModelResource, composeSchema } from '@next-model/graphql-api';

const connector = new SqliteConnector(':memory:');

class User extends Model({
  tableName: 'users',
  connector,
  init: (props: { name: string; age: number; active: boolean }) => props,
}) {}

const userResource = buildModelResource({
  Model: User,
  name: 'User',
  fields: {
    id: { type: 'Int!' },
    name: { type: 'String!' },
    age: { type: 'Int!' },
    active: { type: 'Boolean!' },
  },
});

const { typeDefs, resolvers } = composeSchema([userResource]);
const schema = makeExecutableSchema({ typeDefs, resolvers });

Every resource contributes:

  • type User, input UserCreateInput, input UserUpdateInput, input UserFilterInput, input UserOrderInput, type UserList { items, meta }.
  • Query.users, Query.user, Query.userCount, Mutation.createUser, Mutation.updateUser, Mutation.deleteUser.

Query arguments

| Argument | Effect | |----------------------|-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | filter: UserFilterInput | Each field optional, compiled to Model.filterBy({...}). | | order: [UserOrderInput!] | { key, dir: ASC|DESC } entries composed left-to-right. | | limit, skip | Basic windowing. | | page, perPage | Offset pagination — meta populates { page, perPage, total, totalPages }. | | after, before | Cursor pagination — meta populates { nextCursor, prevCursor, hasMore }. |

Per-operation authorization

buildModelResource({
  Model: User,
  name: 'User',
  fields: {...},
  authorize: (ctx) => !!ctx.context.user,                          // global
  operations: {
    delete: { authorize: (ctx) => ctx.context.user?.role === 'admin' },
    create: { authorize: adminOnly },
  },
});

authorize returning false (or throwing) surfaces as a GraphQLError with extensions.code = 'UNAUTHORIZED'.

Set an operation to false to omit it from the schema entirely (the field won't appear in the generated typeDefs).

Response mapping

buildModelResource({
  Model: User,
  name: 'User',
  fields: {...},
  serialize: (row, ctx) => {
    const attrs = row.attributes as Record<string, unknown>;
    const { passwordHash, ...safe } = attrs;
    return safe;
  },
});

serialize runs once per row for list / get / create / update.

Error mapping

| Error | GraphQL extension code | |---------------------------------------|-------------------------| | NotFoundError | NOT_FOUND | | ValidationError | VALIDATION_ERROR | | UnauthorizedError (auth failure) | UNAUTHORIZED | | Any other NextModelError | PERSISTENCE_ERROR | | Anything else | (no code set) |
