Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

CurrantUI

The National Health Intelligence Center (NHIC) React design system: shadcn/ui + Radix primitives with Tailwind v4 tokens, published as @nhic/currantui.

Requirements

  • React 19
  • Tailwind CSS v4
  • pnpm

Install

pnpm add @nhic/currantui

The package is public on npmjs.com under the nhic org — no registry auth needed to install.

Setup

Import the design system in your CSS entry (it already imports tailwindcss, the shadcn base layer, and the fonts):

@import "@nhic/currantui/globals.css";

Tailwind picks up your own app files through automatic content detection; the packaged globals.css carries an @source directive so classes used inside CurrantUI components are generated too.

Usage

import { Button } from "@nhic/currantui/components/button"
import { cn } from "@nhic/currantui/lib/utils"

export function Example() {
  return <Button variant="outline">Save</Button>
}

Dark mode is class-based: toggle the dark class on a root element (see theme-toggle).

Brand components

HicLogo (and SiteFooter, which embeds it) renders the coat of arms from an image URL, defaulting to /logo.svg. The SVG ships with the package — either copy node_modules/@nhic/currantui/dist/assets/logo.svg into your public/ root, or pass a bundler-imported URL:

import logoUrl from "@nhic/currantui/assets/logo.svg"

<HicLogo src={logoUrl} stamp="DOCS" />

Theming

The default theme is a clinical-dark look tuned for data-dense health applications. Re-brand a project by overriding the CSS variables after the import:

@import "@nhic/currantui/globals.css";

:root {
  --primary: oklch(0.55 0.15 150);
  --primary-deep: oklch(0.35 0.12 150);
  --radius: 0.5rem;
}

All tokens live in src/styles/globals.css (:root for light, .dark for dark).

Adding components

The repo is shadcn-compatible. From packages/currantui:

pnpm dlx shadcn@latest add <component>

Generated files land in src/components with @nhic/currantui/* imports.

Development

pnpm install
pnpm build        # tsup → dist (ESM + d.ts) + globals.css copy
pnpm typecheck
pnpm lint

| Doc | Contents | |---|---| | docs/overview.md | Problem, solution, users, non-goals | | docs/design-standards.md | Tokens, typography, density, states — the rules components follow | | docs/architecture.md | Stack, package contract, tokens, integrations, CI/CD | | docs/development.md | Setup, standards, git workflow, testing, security | | CLAUDE.md | AI navigation guide + non-negotiable rules |

Releasing

Versioning is handled by Changesets. Add a changeset to your PR:

pnpm changeset

Merging to master opens (or updates) a release PR. Merging that release PR triggers the publish job, which waits for human approval on the npm-publish GitHub environment before it runs. Publishing itself uses npm trusted publishing (OIDC) — no npm token is stored anywhere; npm mints a short-lived credential only for approved runs of this workflow. (2FA-bypass granular tokens are deprecated and lose direct publishing in January 2027.)
