Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

A local, deterministic MCP server that parses multi-language codebases into an AST dependency graph.

Marrow is a local, deterministic Rust MCP server and CLI. It parses your codebase with tree-sitter, builds a cross-repository dependency graph in a local SQLite database, and serves deterministic structural context — callers, blast radius, condensed code capsules — to AI coding agents. No embeddings, no provider SDKs, no network calls.

This npm package is a thin installer: it downloads the matching GitHub release archive for your platform, verifies it against checksums.sha256, extracts the marrow binary securely, and runs it from the package dist/ directory.

Install

npm install -g @nickm-swe/marrow

Quick start

Using Marrow is one word:

marrow

Just like claude opens Claude Code, marrow opens the Marrow hub: it shows your installed version, workspace status, and index health, then walks you through everything — connecting coding agents, indexing, compiling context packets, querying symbols, and diagnostics. On a fresh workspace it tells you exactly where to start.

Prefer direct commands? Every hub action is also a subcommand:

marrow integrate # connect Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot & more
marrow index # index the current directory
marrow context "trace request flow" --repo my_repo --format markdown
marrow doctor # verify the index answers agent queries

Commands

Type marrow for the interactive hub, or run any command directly. marrow --help prints the full grouped reference.

| Command | Purpose | |---------|---------| | marrow | Open the interactive hub (version, workspace status, guided actions). | | marrow mcp | Start the MCP stdio server (used by editor/agent integrations). | | marrow init | Initialize workspace config (.marrow/, .marrowrc.json). | | marrow index | Index the current workspace. | | marrow watch | Keep the index fresh via the background daemon. | | marrow context <task> | Compile a provider-neutral context packet (markdown/JSON). | | marrow query <symbol> <repo_id> | Print a symbol's context capsule plus impact analysis. | | marrow integrate | Write/print MCP setup for supported agent targets. | | marrow doctor | Verify indexed repos answer agent queries. | | marrow ui / marrow ui-app | Open the dashboard / manage the desktop app entry. | | marrow daemon [install\|uninstall\|status] | Background daemon and autostart management. |

The npm postinstall step does not register the desktop app or daemon. To add desktop app entries explicitly, run:

marrow ui-app enable

Daemon autostart remains separate and opt-in through marrow daemon install.
