Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Docker connection manager for the crouter SDK — start, attach to, and stop a crtrd container over the docker CLI. Zero crouter imports.

@north-light/env-docker — start and attach to a crtrd container from Node

crouter

@north-light/env-docker starts, attaches to and stops a crtrd (the crouter daemon) Docker container through the docker CLI, and hands back the connection settings that @north-light/sdk takes. It has no dependencies, including on the SDK.

It is not a Docker client library or an orchestrator: it runs one container and tells you how to reach it. The image contains no model credential, so you configure a provider inside the container before an agent run can do anything.

Install

npm install @north-light/env-docker @north-light/sdk

The Docker CLI must be on PATH, and able to pull ghcr.io/northlight-systems/crtrd (or the image you pass).

Start a container

import { start } from '@north-light/env-docker';
import Crouter from '@north-light/sdk';

const env = await start({
  name: 'my-crouter',
  volume: 'my-agent-home',
});

const client = new Crouter(env.connection());
console.log(await client.system.health());

await env.stop();

start() creates a container from ghcr.io/northlight-systems/crtrd:latest unless you pass image, generates a bearer token, grants the privileges the image's sandbox launcher needs (SYS_ADMIN and NET_ADMIN, unconfined seccomp and AppArmor), binds the mapped port to 127.0.0.1, and waits for /healthz. connection() returns { baseURL, headers }, the shape new Crouter(...) takes. stop() removes the container.

Options: env sets container environment variables, port selects a host port, volume mounts a named Docker volume at /volume, the image's declared volume. A named volume keeps canvas state, memory and installed credentials when the container is recreated.

Attach to an existing container

import { attach } from '@north-light/env-docker';

const env = await attach('my-crouter');
const connection = env.connection();
await env.stop(); // stops the container but does not remove it

attach(name) reads the container's mapped port and its CRTRD_TOKEN.
