Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@nuvui/icons

317 line icons drawn for nuvui, on a 24 pixel grid, in three styles. Each is a React component and an SVG file.

This is early: the package is on npm as a 0.x version, and before 1.0 a minor version may rename or remove things. The changelog says where one does.

pnpm add @nuvui/icons
import { ArrowRightIcon } from "@nuvui/icons";

export function Next() {
  return (
    <a href="/next">
      Next <ArrowRightIcon size={16} />
    </a>
  );
}

It needs React 18.2 or newer and nothing else: no stylesheet, and not @nuvui/react.

Three styles

| Style | Import from | How it's drawn | | --- | --- | --- | | Standard | @nuvui/icons | Round ends, sharp corners. | | Rounded | @nuvui/icons/rounded | Round ends and rounded corners. | | Sharp | @nuvui/icons/sharp | Square ends and mitered corners. |

The three have the same icons by the same names.

How an icon behaves

  • Its name is the icon's name in the set with Icon at the end: arrow-right is ArrowRightIcon. That's its only name.
  • Its color is the text's around it (currentColor). No color is written into an icon.
  • Its size is 24 pixels unless size says otherwise. The line is 1.5 units on the 24 unit grid, and strokeWidth changes it.
  • For screen readers it's hidden, unless it has a title or an aria-label, which names it as a picture.
  • In a server component it renders as markup. It has no state and no "use client".
  • In a bundle only the icons a page imports are kept. Each is a module of its own.

createIcon makes an icon of your own that's drawn the same way. Every icon is also an SVG file, such as @nuvui/icons/svg/standard/arrow-right.svg, and @nuvui/icons/manifest.json lists every icon with its category.

The docs page shows every icon, with a search.
