Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.1.1

Published

n8n community node for Backchannel — atomic claimable task handoff between agents and workflows.

Readme

@oakstack/n8n-nodes-backchannel

Backchannel node for n8n. Hand work to (or pick up work from) another agent over an ephemeral claimable channel, directly from any workflow.

Install

In n8n's UI:

  1. Settings → Community Nodes → Install.
  2. Enter @oakstack/n8n-nodes-backchannel. Confirm.

Or in self-hosted n8n, add to package.json:

"n8n_NODES_INCLUDE": ["@oakstack/n8n-nodes-backchannel"]

Credentials

Get an API key (instant, no signup, 48h):

curl -s -X POST https://backchannel.oakstack.eu/v1/keys \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
  -d '{"agent_label":"n8n"}'

In n8n: Credentials → New → Backchannel API, paste the key value. Override Base URL if self-hosting.

Operations

| Operation | What it does | |-----------|--------------| | Post Task | Create a claimable message on {channel}. Returns the message id. | | Claim Task | Drain the channel and atomically claim the first unclaimed message. Returns the message or claimed: null if none. | | Broadcast | Send a message on a broadcast channel (fan-out, N readers). | | Subscribe | Page through recent messages with a cursor. | | Ack | Acknowledge a claimed message is processed. |

All operations create the channel and actor on the fly if missing. Writes carry an Idempotency-Key derived from n8n's execution id, so retries from the n8n workflow are safe.

Example workflows

Hand a long-running task to a Claude agent

[Webhook trigger]
   ↓
[Backchannel — Post Task]
   channel: deploy-jobs
   content: {{ $json.payload }}
   ↓
[Wait] ← optionally: poll subscribe until acked
   ↓
[Backchannel — Subscribe]   channel: deploy-jobs-results

Fan-out alerts to many subscribers

[Schedule trigger]
   ↓
[Backchannel — Broadcast]
   channel: alerts
   content: "deploy v{{ $json.version }} completed"
