axios-retry

Resilient Axios requests with exponential backoff, flexible retry conditions, and lifecycle hooks — zero boilerplate.

  One function call on any Axios instance — no wrappers, no class extensions, no config files.

  Choose a fixed delay between retries or let the wait time grow automatically with each attempt.
• Flexible Retry Conditions
  Pass a list of HTTP status codes or a custom function to decide exactly when a retry should happen.
• Full Lifecycle Hooks
  React to every retry event — onRetry, onMaxRetry, onRetryFailed, and onMaxRetryExceeded — for logging, alerting, or custom logic.

Prerequisites

• Node.js version 18 or higher
• A package manager: e.g. npm, pnpm, ...

Installation

Using npm:

$ npm install @ogs-gmbh/axios-retry

Using yarn:

$ pnpm add @ogs-gmbh/axios-retry

Using pnpm:

$ pnpm add @ogs-gmbh/axios-retry

Using bun:

$ bun add @ogs-gmbh/axios-retry

Usage

Now, you're able to import axiosRetry. Take the following line as an example:

import { create } from "axios";
import { axiosRetry } from "@ogs-gmbh/axios-retry";

function makeACall() {
  const instance = create({
    baseURL: "https://ogs.de/example"
  });

  axiosRetry(instance);

  return instance;
}
