Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@onexnpm/email-sender

v1.0.0

Published

A simple wrapper for Nodemailer to send emails, configured through .env variables.

Readme

📧 @onexnpm/email-sender

npm version Node.js Nodemailer License

A simple, lightweight wrapper for Nodemailer to send emails — fully configurable through environment variables.

🚀 Features

  • Quick setup — no extra config files required
  • 🔒 Secure — credentials loaded from process.env
  • 📦 Minimal dependencies (just Nodemailer + dotenv)
  • 🧩 Works with any SMTP provider (Zoho, Gmail, Outlook, etc.)
  • 💬 Supports text or HTML emails

📦 Installation

Install via npm or yarn:

npm install @onexnpm/email-sender
# or
yarn add @onexnpm/email-sender

⚙️ Configuration

Create a .env file in your project root:

SMTP_HOST=smtp.email.com
SMTP_PORT=465
[email protected]
SMTP_PASS=your_app_password
APP_NAME=YourAppName

💡 You can use any SMTP provider — not just Zoho — by changing the SMTP_HOST and SMTP_PORT.

💻 Usage

1️⃣ Simple Example

import sendEmail from '@onexnpm/email-sender';

// Ensure your .env variables are loaded by your app first!
try {
  await sendEmail({
    to: '[email protected]',
    subject: 'Hello from Email!',
    html: '<h1>Welcome to Our Service 🚀</h1><p>This is a test email.</p>'
  });
} catch (error) {
  console.error('Failed to send email:', error);
}

2️⃣ Using Named Import

import { sendEmail } from '@onexnpm/email-sender';

const mailOptions = {
  to: '[email protected]',
  subject: 'Password Reset Code',
  text: 'Your reset code is 123456',
};

await sendEmail(mailOptions);

3️⃣ Console Output Example

✅ Mailer is configured and ready to send emails.
📧 Email sent successfully: <[email protected]>

🧩 Example Error Output

❌ Mailer configuration error: Invalid login

🧠 Environment Variables

| Variable | Description | Example Value | | ------------- | -------------------------------- | ----------------- | | SMTP_HOST | SMTP server host | smtp.zoho.com | | SMTP_PORT | SMTP server port | 465 or 587 | | SMTP_USER | Email address for authentication | [email protected] | | SMTP_PASS | SMTP app password | yourAppPassword | | APP_NAME | Optional display name for sender | My Company |

📂 Example Project Structure

project/
├── .env
├── index.js
├── package.json
└── node_modules/

⚙️ How It Works

  • Uses Nodemailer internally
  • Reads SMTP configuration directly from process.env
  • Creates a reusable transporter on import
  • Sends emails using a single helper function: sendEmail()

🛠️ Requirements

  • Node.js v18+
  • A valid SMTP account (Zoho, Gmail, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ensure your app loads environment variables (e.g., via dotenv)
