Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@open-draw/canvas

License: MIT npm version

DOM Canvas engine — an infinite canvas where every shape is a real SVG element.

@open-draw/canvas provides a high-performance, pure SVG DOM canvas engine. It powers infinite pan and zoom, reactive transactions, undo/redo history, shape registration, live preview transforms, inline text editing, and export to PNG, all while maintaining strict zero runtime dependencies outside of @open-draw/schema.

Installation

npm install @open-draw/canvas @open-draw/schema

Minimal Example (30 lines)

import { CanvasEditor } from '@open-draw/canvas';

// 1. Initialize and mount canvas
const container = document.getElementById('canvas-container')!;
const editor = new CanvasEditor();
editor.mount(container);

// 2. Create shapes via reactive transactions
const note = editor.createShape({
  type: 'note',
  x: 100,
  y: 100,
  props: { width: 180, height: 120, color: '#fef08a', text: 'Important Note' },
});

// 3. Attach custom HTML/SVG badges into the shape's overlay slot
const slot = editor.getOverlaySlot(note.id);
if (slot) {
  const badge = document.createElementNS('http://www.w3.org/2000/svg', 'text');
  badge.setAttribute('x', '10');
  badge.setAttribute('y', '24');
  badge.textContent = 'STATUS: REVIEW';
  slot.appendChild(badge);
}

// 4. Undo and redo with single-step atomic transactions
editor.undo();
editor.redo();

// 5. Export canvas to PNG Blob
const pngBlob = await editor.exportPNG({ chips: true });

Try the Playground

You can run the interactive development playground locally from the repository root:

npx vite --config packages/canvas/e2e/playground/vite.config.ts packages/canvas/e2e/playground --host 127.0.0.1 --port 5173

Navigate to http://127.0.0.1:5173/ in your browser to interact with the live canvas, test gestures, and benchmark FPS.

Semver Statement

Starting from version 0.1.0, the public API surface of @open-draw/canvas is frozen under CI surveillance. No public export or contract will be changed or removed without an advance minor-version deprecation cycle.
