Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@open-panel/profile-engine

v0.1.0

Published

Profile/page/button CRUD, zod validation, SQLite persistence (via Node's built-in node:sqlite) and schema-version migrations for OpenPanel.

Readme

@open-panel/profile-engine

Profile/page/button CRUD, zod validation, SQLite persistence and schema-version migrations for OpenPanel.

Requires Node ≥ 22.5 — persistence is built on Node's own built-in node:sqlite, so installing this package never needs a native compiler toolchain (no better-sqlite3-style addon to build).

Install

npm install @open-panel/profile-engine

What's in here

  • openDatabase(path) / migrate(db) — opens a node:sqlite database and applies structural migrations, tracked in a migrations table so an existing database is never silently rewritten outside that list.
  • ProfileRepository — profile persistence and CRUD (list, get, create, save) against an injected Db handle, so it runs equally well against an in-memory database in tests.
  • SettingsRepository — key/value settings storage in the same database.
  • Profile operations — pure functions over a Profile value: addPage, renamePage, movePage, deletePage, createFolder, upsertButton/replaceButton/removeButton/findButton, pagesInLayer, findPageContainingButton, isFolderButton, pruneOrphanPages.
  • Validation — validateProfile/validateProfileDocument, and ProfileValidationError/UnsupportedProfileVersionError for the specific ways input can be rejected.
  • Migrations & legacy shapes — migrateProfileDocument, convertLegacyFolders/normalizeFolders/ensureFolderBackKeys, convertFirstLastPageActions, for reading profile documents written by older schema versions.
  • Import/export — round-tripping a Profile to/from a ProfileDocument for backup and transfer between machines.

Usage

import { openDatabase, migrate, ProfileRepository } from "@open-panel/profile-engine";

const db = openDatabase("./openpanel.sqlite");
migrate(db);

const profiles = new ProfileRepository(db);
const profile = profiles.create({ name: "My Deck" });
import { addPage, upsertButton } from "@open-panel/profile-engine";
import { PROFILE_SCHEMA_VERSION } from "@open-panel/shared";

let profile = addPage(profile, "Page 2");
profile = upsertButton(profile, profile.pages[1].id, {
  position: 0,
  action: { type: "url.open", config: { url: "https://example.com" } },
});
profiles.save({ schemaVersion: PROFILE_SCHEMA_VERSION, profile });
