Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Pacepard design system and React UI component library

Readme

@pacepard/ui

Pacepard design system and React UI component library. Framework-agnostic presentation components for Next.js, Vite, and other React applications.

Installation

pnpm add @pacepard/ui
npm install @pacepard/ui

Quick start

import { Button, Card, Input } from '@pacepard/ui';
import '@pacepard/ui/styles.css';

export function Example() {
    return (
        <Card>
            <Input placeholder="Email" />
            <Button>Continue</Button>
        </Card>
    );
}

Theming

Semantic CSS variables power light and dark themes. Initialize theme on the client:

import { initTheme, setTheme } from '@pacepard/ui';

initTheme('system');
setTheme('dark');

Themes: light, dark, system. Components use tokens such as --pacepard-primary and short aliases like --primary.

Development

pnpm install
pnpm storybook
pnpm check
pnpm build-storybook

Storybook

Storybook is the visual development environment:

pnpm storybook

Includes the accessibility addon. Violations are treated as errors (a11y.test: 'error').

Documentation

  • Storybook — interactive components, props, a11y
  • Mintlify — conceptual docs under docs/ (installation, theming, tokens)

Mintlify content is intended for docs.pacepard.com and does not duplicate every Storybook example.

# Preview Mintlify docs locally (requires Mintlify CLI)
cd docs && npx mintlify dev

Testing

  • Unit/component: Vitest + React Testing Library (pnpm test)
  • Browser flows: Playwright against Storybook (pnpm build-storybook && pnpm test:e2e)
    • Dialog, Dropdown, Tabs, Form, Toast/Sonner, InputOTP, Checkbox, Switch, Select, Accordion, Chart, Sheet, theme
    • Axe smoke (e2e/a11y.spec.ts) via Storybook’s axe on Button, Form, Dialog, Tabs, Checkbox, Select (serious/critical; color-contrast disabled)
  • Visual regression (Chromatic) is optional and not wired until a project token exists

Publishing

Versioning uses Changesets. On merge to master, the release workflow can open a release PR or publish to npm.

pnpm changeset

Package exports

| Import | Purpose | | --- | --- | | @pacepard/ui | Components, utilities, theme helpers | | @pacepard/ui/styles.css | Design tokens and component styles | | @pacepard/ui/tokens | Typed token references | | @pacepard/ui/theme | Theme helpers (initTheme, setTheme) | | @pacepard/ui/<name> | Per-component ESM entry (kebab-case), e.g. @pacepard/ui/button |

ESM-only. Peers: React, React DOM. Optional peers: react-hook-form (Form), react-is (Recharts). Chart tooltips/legends: import ChartTooltip / ChartLegend from @pacepard/ui.

Examples

Local consumer apps under examples/. They depend on the published npm packages (@pacepard/ui / @pacepard/icons), not the workspace sources:

# Vite
cd examples/vite && pnpm install && pnpm build

# Next.js
cd examples/next && pnpm install && pnpm build

Both examples include Sidebar shell, Questionnaire, Form, Toast, Dialog, Table, Chart, and @pacepard/icons.
