Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Command-line interface for the Perspective External API

Readme

Perspective CLI

perspective drives Perspective from the shell. It wraps the External API and is built to be driven by both people and coding agents: output is JSON, errors are JSON, and exit codes are stable.

Full docs: https://developers.perspective.co/cli/overview

Install

Requires Node.js 24.

npm install -g @perspective-software/cli # or: pnpm add -g @perspective-software/cli
perspective --help

Authenticate

Sign in with your browser, or use an API key (Perspective → Settings → API Keys, admins only):

perspective auth login # opens the browser; tokens are stored and refreshed
perspective auth login --method api-key # prompts for an API key, validates it, stores it
printf %s "$KEY" | perspective auth login # or pipe a key in
perspective auth status

Credentials live in ~/.config/perspective/credentials.json (mode 0600). In CI, set PERSPECTIVE_API_KEY instead. Precedence is --api-key flag → env → stored key → stored sign-in.

Use

perspective funnels list --status live
perspective contacts list <funnelId> --all
perspective contacts list <funnelId> --all --fields id,email, status
perspective contacts create <funnelId> --email [email protected] --first-name Ada --dry-run
perspective contacts create <funnelId> --email [email protected] --first-name Ada
perspective metrics kpi <funnelId> conversion_rate --days 7
perspective metrics kpi <funnelId> all --fields type, value, count
perspective metrics chart <funnelId> visitor_devices --from 2026-09-01 --to 2026-10-01

Output is pretty-printed at a terminal and compact when piped (--pretty / --no-pretty). --fields a,b,c.d keeps only those fields of each result. --dry-run on contacts create and contacts set prints the request instead of sending it. On HTTP 429 the CLI waits (Retry-After, at most a minute) and retries up to 3 times.

Exit codes

| Code | Meaning | |---|---| | 0 | success | | 1 | API error | | 2 | usage error (bad flags/arguments, HTTP 400) | | 3 | not authenticated (HTTP 401) | | 4 | forbidden (HTTP 403) | | 5 | not found (HTTP 404) | | 6 | rate limited (HTTP 429, 100 requests/minute) | | 7 | network error |

Errors go to stderr as {"error":{"code","message","status?","hint?"}}.

Agents

skills/perspective/SKILL.md teaches coding agents (Claude Code and anything else that reads Agent Skills) how to use the CLI safely. Install it with:

perspective skill install # ~/.claude/skills/perspective/SKILL.md
perspective skill install --project # ./.claude/skills/perspective/SKILL.md
perspective skill show # print it (JSON; | jq -r .content)
