Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Sentry Plugin

This plugin is responsible for listening for the Picked Client eventBus and interacting with a Sentry instance by adding tags and triggering captureMessage and captureException.

This are the events listened by the Plugin:

  • exception: When an exception event is added to the eventBus the plugin will automatically check the level and based on that call captureException when the level is error and captureMessage when the level is info.
  • session: When the session event happens, the Plugin will add the tag picked.id to the Sentry global scope with the session id as value. Example: picked.id: 000000000
  • feature_decide: When the feature_decide event happens, the Plugin will add the tag picked.feature.[FEATURE_ID] to the Sentry global scope with the bucket as value. Example: picked.feature.my_feature: true
  • user_decide: When the user_decide event happens, the Plugin will add the tag picked.is_user with the user_decide value. Example: picked.is_user: true

⚠️ Version Compatibility

This plugin depends on Sentry's internal carrier implementation. Version mismatches between your application's Sentry SDK and the version used by @picked/sentry plugin will cause the plugin to stop working.

Requirements:

  • Sentry SDK Version: This plugin requires Sentry SDK version ^10.0.0
  • Peer Dependencies: This plugin requires @sentry/browser to be installed in the client, as it is a peerdepency in this package. This ensures version compatibility between the client and the plugin
  • Package Compatibility: All Sentry packages (@sentry/browser, @sentry/svelte, @sentry/node, etc.) must use the same major version to ensure proper functionality

Note: Install the appropriate Sentry package for your framework alongside this plugin. The plugin will use the same Sentry instance from the client, preventing version conflicts.

🚀 Quick Start

Here's a basic example of how to use the Sentry Plugin:

// app.ts file
import { getClient } from '@sentry/svelte'
import { sentryPlugin } from '@picked/sentry'

const client = createClient({
  // ... values
  plugin: [sentryPlugin(getClient())], // Usually the array of plugins are defined earlier, so you can add the sentry plugin there
})
