Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Encode EPOS abstract syntax trees as ESC/POS printer commands

Readme

@piqy/epos-encoder

Convert an @piqy/epos-ast receipt tree to ESC/POS printer bytes.

Install

pnpm add @piqy/epos-encoder @piqy/epos-ast @piqy/epos-codepages effect

Encode a receipt

encode returns an Effect. Provide the character tables that the printer supports, then run the Effect.

import type { Root } from '@piqy/epos-ast'
import { encode } from '@piqy/epos-encoder'
import { StandardCodepagesLayer } from '@piqy/epos-codepages/presets/standard'
import { Effect } from 'effect'

const receipt = {
	type: 'root',
	children: [{ type: 'text', value: 'Hello' }, { type: 'break' }, { type: 'cut', mode: 'full' }],
} satisfies Root

const bytes = await Effect.runPromise(encode(receipt).pipe(Effect.provide(StandardCodepagesLayer)))

Choose character tables

Use exact pages when application size matters:

import { codepageLayer } from '@piqy/epos-codepages'
import { page000 } from '@piqy/epos-codepages/pages/page-000'
import { page019 } from '@piqy/epos-codepages/pages/page-019'

const ReceiptCodepages = codepageLayer([page000, page019])
const program = encode(receipt).pipe(Effect.provide(ReceiptCodepages))

Text without a codepage automatically uses any provided table that supports it. Selection starts on page 0 and changes pages only when necessary.

A page on a text node always has priority:

{ type: 'text', value: 'Price: 10 €', codepage: 19 }

Turn automatic selection off with:

encode(receipt, { automaticCodepage: false, codepage: 0 })

Stream a receipt

encodeStream emits the printer initialization bytes first. It then emits one byte chunk for each input node. Each run has separate printer state.

import { encodeStream } from '@piqy/epos-encoder'
import { Effect, Stream } from 'effect'

const chunks = await Effect.runPromise(
	encodeStream(Stream.fromIterable(receipt.children)).pipe(Stream.provide(StandardCodepagesLayer), Stream.runCollect),
)

Both encode and encodeStream are available from @piqy/epos-encoder.

Errors

The returned Effect or Stream fails when:

  • a required character table was not provided,
  • a character is not available in the selected tables, or
  • a receipt node contains invalid data.

The encoder does not replace unsupported text without an error.
