Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

Install

# npm
npm install -g @pkieltyka/gitgenie

# bun
bun install -g @pkieltyka/gitgenie

This installs the gitgenie command globally.

Or run directly without installing:

Quick start

# Authenticate with an LLM provider
gitgenie login anthropic

# Generate release notes between two tags
gitgenie release-notes v1.0 v1.1

# Deep mode: analyze source diffs, not just commit messages
gitgenie release-notes v1.0 v1.1 --deep --save

# Code review a commit
gitgenie review abc123

Configuration

Default provider is anthropic with claude-opus-4-5. Override per-provider defaults:

gitgenie config set-model anthropic claude-sonnet-4-5
gitgenie config set-provider anthropic

Or per-invocation:

gitgenie release-notes v1.0 v1.1 --provider anthropic --model claude-sonnet-4-5

Config is stored at ~/.gitgenie/config.json. Auth credentials at ~/.gitgenie/auth.json.
