Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

spacetimedb-voip for TypeScript (submodule)

Voice chat as a SpacetimeDB submodule. Mount it, and your module gets rooms, proximity voice and private packet delivery.

Source: src/index.ts · Complete example: demo/typescript · Protocol: docs/PROTOCOL.md

Install

npm install @pogly/spacetimedb-voip spacetimedb

Use spacetimedb 2.11.x or 2.12.x, and keep only one copy of it in your module's dependency tree. With two copies, spacetime publish fails with "Local module schema inspection failed". The package ships compiled JavaScript plus its TypeScript source, which is where the types come from.

To work on it from a clone instead, add this folder to your npm workspaces next to your module:

// package.json at your repo root
{ "private": true, "workspaces": ["spacetimedb-voip/typescript", "my-module"] }
// my-module/package.json
{ "dependencies": { "spacetimedb": "2.12.*", "@pogly/spacetimedb-voip": "*" } }

Wire it up

Submodules can't declare row-level-security filters or lifecycle reducers, so your module adds them:

import { schema } from 'spacetimedb/server';
import * as voip from '@pogly/spacetimedb-voip';                // `import * as`, not a default import

const spacetimedb = schema({ /* your tables */, voip }); // mounted under the namespace "voip"
export default spacetimedb;

// The delivery rule: each packet only reaches its listeners. Pass the canonical namespace.
export const voipPacketFilter = spacetimedb.clientVisibilityFilter.sql(voip.packetFilterSql('voip'));

export const init = spacetimedb.init((ctx) => {
  voip.newRoom(ctx.as.voip, 'Lobby');
  voip.newRoom(ctx.as.voip, 'Proximity', { spatial: true, range: 30 });
});
export const onConnect = spacetimedb.clientConnected((ctx) => voip.onConnect(ctx.as.voip));
export const onDisconnect = spacetimedb.clientDisconnected((ctx) => voip.onDisconnect(ctx.as.voip));

// In your movement reducer, for proximity rooms:
voip.setPosition(ctx.as.voip, ctx.sender, { x, y, z });

The library functions are configure, newRoom, deleteRoom, joinRoom, leaveRoom, setPosition, clearPosition, setServerMuted, onConnect and onDisconnect. They match the Rust and C# versions.

Names

Submodule tables and reducers are namespaced: voip.packet, voip.peer, reducer voip.send, and in generated client bindings conn.db['voip.packet'], conn.reducers['voip.send']. Rust and C# use voip_packet / voip_send. Columns and arguments are identical. demo/web/src/api.ts shows one client handling both.
