Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@potatosalad775/eqcaps-client

Fetches, caches and matches eqcaps EQ constraint profiles. Zero runtime dependencies besides @potatosalad775/eqcaps-core, no DOM types, works in browsers, Node and WebViews.

import { createClient, webStorageStore } from '@potatosalad775/eqcaps-client';
import { fit, complete, validateList } from '@potatosalad775/eqcaps-core';

const client = createClient({ store: webStorageStore(localStorage) });

// What WebHID (or a native USB plugin) reports for the connected device.
const { best, matches } = await client.matchDevice({
	usb: { vendorId: device.vendorId, productId: device.productId, productName: device.productName }
});
const profile = best && (await client.loadProfile(best.id));
if (profile) {
	const problems = validateList(profile, filters); // while editing: flag, don't rewrite
	const result = fit(profile, filters, preamp); // before writing: what to send
	// Every slot filled. Given what the device holds (if it can be read), empty slots keep that
	// layout, written flat, instead of neutral fillers.
	const slots = complete(profile, result.slots, { hints: readBack }).filters;
}
  • Never throws, never blocks. Every failure (offline, HTTP error, malformed data, a full cache) resolves to null or no matches and is reported to onError. The app keeps working without constraints.
  • Caching. index.json and bundle.json are fresh for ttl (default 24 h), then revalidated with their ETag. Profiles are cached by the sha256 the index lists for them. The store is pluggable: memoryStore() (default), webStorageStore(localStorage), or your own CacheStore.
  • Offline. Pass an embedded bundle.json as snapshot; it answers whenever neither the network nor the cache can.
  • Matching follows the format's specificity rules: best is set only for a unique top match, and at equal specificity a device profile beats a group profile. On a tie (ambiguous), let the user choose. Deprecated profiles never match. Match fields may list several values (SPEC §3).

The default baseUrl is the format's channel V1_URL (https://potatosalad775.github.io/eqcaps/v1/). Versions before 0.2.0 defaulted to the pre-freeze channel /next/, which is no longer served: they find no data, and match nothing.
