Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@prexjs/session

Session middleware for Express and Connect servers with extensible stores, cookie signing, and auto-rollback.

npm version npm downloads License: MIT TypeScript

@prexjs/session is a robust HTTP session management middleware for Node.js, Express, and Connect applications. It handles session persistence, cryptographic cookie signing, rolling expiration, and custom storage adapters.

Features

  • Built-in session store support with extensible abstract Store base class.
  • Cryptographically signed session cookies via @prexjs/cookie-signature.
  • Rolling session expiration support.
  • Deferred response header flushing and automatic session change detection.
  • RFC 6265 compliant path matching.
  • Dual ES Module (.mjs) and CommonJS (.cjs) support with TypeScript definitions.

Installation

Install using your preferred package manager:

# npm
npm install @prexjs/session

# pnpm
pnpm add @prexjs/session

# Yarn
yarn add @prexjs/session

# Bun
bun add @prexjs/session

Quick start

import http from 'node:http';
import session from '@prexjs/session';

const sessionMiddleware = session({
  secret: 'keyboard-cat-secret',
  resave: false,
  saveUninitialized: false,
  cookie: { secure: false, maxAge: 60000 },
});

const server = http.createServer((req: any, res: any) => {
  sessionMiddleware(req, res, () => {
    req.session.views = (req.session.views || 0) + 1;
    res.end(`You have viewed this page ${req.session.views} times`);
  });
});

Both default and named exports are supported:

import session, {
  Store,
  Cookie,
  Session,
  MemoryStore,
  type SessionOptions,
  type SessionRequest,
  type SessionResponse,
} from '@prexjs/session';

Examples

Custom Store Adapter

import { Store, type SessionData } from '@prexjs/session';

class CustomStore extends Store {
  get(sid: string, callback: (err: any, session?: SessionData | null) => void) {
    // Retrieve session by ID
  }

  set(sid: string, session: SessionData, callback?: (err?: any) => void) {
    // Persist session
  }

  destroy(sid: string, callback?: (err?: any) => void) {
    // Remove session
  }
}

Compatibility

@prexjs/session is designed for Node.js, Deno, and Bun HTTP servers and frameworks (Express, Connect).
