Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

v0.5.1

File-system discovery and ignore-rule handling for CodeAtlas.

Readme

@prof-bilal/atlas-scanner

Recursively scan a project directory and collect structured metadata.

Implements ScannerPort from @prof-bilal/atlas-core. This package is metadata only — it does not parse source code, invoke AI, or touch a database.

Features

  • Recursive directory walk with a built-in file tree.
  • Ignore rules — skips node_modules, .git, dist, build, .next, coverage, and vendor (case-insensitive, configurable).
  • Detection of:
    • files and folders (with counts),
    • extensions (grouped by type),
    • programming languages (by extension),
    • framework (from package.json dependencies / lockfile markers, if possible),
    • package.json, tsconfig.json, README.md, and git repository markers.
  • Structured output only (a ProjectScan object) — no side effects.

Usage

import { scanProject } from "@prof-bilal/atlas-scanner";

const result = await scanProject("/path/to/project" as FilePath);
if (result.ok) {
  console.log(result.value.framework); // e.g. "next.js"
  console.log(result.value.totalFiles);
}

Public API

  • scanProject(rootPath) — convenience wrapper returning a ProjectScan.
  • ScannerService — the ScannerPort implementation (with options):
    • scanProject(rootPath) — scan a directory into structured metadata.
    • readFile(path) — read a file into a SourceFile with a detected language.
  • createIgnoreMatcher(names) / DEFAULT_IGNORED_DIRECTORIES — ignore rules.
  • detectLanguageByName(fileName) / extensionOf(fileName) — language detection.
  • detectFramework(signals) — framework detection.

Project Manifest

After scanning, you can generate a versioned project manifest with generateManifest(scan, { rootPath }), which writes .codeatlas/manifest.json:

  • project name, languages, framework
  • package manager (from lockfiles: pnpm/yarn/npm/bun/deno)
  • git info (branch, commit, origin remote)
  • createdAt / updatedAt dates and scanner version
  • total files and folders

A manifestVersion schema field is included to support future migrations. Existing values are preserved where possible — notably createdAt is only set on first creation and never reset on later updates.

import { scanProject, generateManifest } from "@prof-bilal/atlas-scanner";

const result = await scanProject("/path/to/project");
if (result.ok) {
  await generateManifest(result.value, { rootPath: "/path/to/project" });
}

Public manifest API: generateManifest, loadManifest, detectPackageManager, collectGitInfo, and the ProjectManifest / GitInfo types.
