Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

HDR status panel plugin for the TIFY IIIF viewer

Note: This code was generated with AI assistance — opencode, powered by GLM (Z.ai).

HDR status panel for the TIFY IIIF viewer: device and canvas HDR capability, plus whether the current IIIF image service advertises HDR support. The dock button carries the capability tint.

Chunk enableHdrCanvasOnce() before new Tify(...) — TIFY creates its OpenSeadragon canvas lazily after mount:

import { enableHdrCanvasOnce, hdrPlugin } from '@projektemacher/tify-plugin-hdr';
import '@projektemacher/tify-plugin-core/style.css';

enableHdrCanvasOnce();
const tify = new Tify({ container: '#tify', manifestUrl });
await tify.ready;
const plugin = await hdrPlugin(tify, {
  panelEl: document.querySelector('#panel'),
});

Notes

  • Requires a Chromium browser with enable-experimental-web-platform-features enabled and an HDR-capable display. The plugin detects this and explains the setup state (flag hint, SDR fallback) in the panel.
  • hdr-canvas must hook getContext before TIFY creates its OpenSeadragon canvas, hence enableHdrCanvasOnce() before new Tify(...).
  • HDR is signalled by the placeholder URI https://christianmahnke.de/iiif/hdr/ in the image service profile[].supports.
  • The panel reports an Image API service summary per page (version, profile, capability fields, HDR verdict).

Example

example/ — HDR canvas status and image service check. Run npm run dev at the repo root and open /packages/plugin-hdr/example/. The example defaults to the wallpaper UltraHDR manifest (https://christianmahnke.de/post/hdr-iiif/manifest.json, single canvas, no text annotations — an empty text view is expected); any manifest URL works via the input box.

Manifest generation

Generate HDR-capable image services with fliiifenleger: UltraHDR JPEGs tiled with --source ultrahdr --sink ultrahdr advertise exactly the https://christianmahnke.de/iiif/hdr/ service entry this plugin checks:

java -jar cli/target/fliiifenleger-cli.jar generate \
  --source ultrahdr \
  --sink ultrahdr \
  --sink-opt quality=90 --sink-opt gainmap-quality=85 \
  -o ./hdr-iiif /path/to/ultrahdr.jpg

Development

npm run build # dist/ (ESM + declarations)
npm run typecheck
npm run test:i18n   # catalogue coverage for src/ + example/
npm run lint
