Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Prompton DocsAgent for conversational Starlight docs

Readme

@prompton-dev/agent

The DocsAgent Durable Object behind Prompton — retrieval-augmented chat over your Starlight docs, running on Cloudflare Workers AI, Vectorize, and KV.

npm install @prompton-dev/agent

Peers: agents, @cloudflare/ai-chat, ai, workers-ai-provider, zod.

Usage

Export the agent from your Worker and route to it:

import { routeAgentRequest } from "agents";
import { DocsAgent } from "@prompton-dev/agent";

export { DocsAgent };

export default {
  async fetch(request, env, ctx) {
    return (await routeAgentRequest(request, env)) ?? new Response("Not found", { status: 404 });
  },
};

Required bindings: AI, VECTORIZE, DOCS (KV). Optional: SESSION (KV, used for rate-limit counters), ASSETS.

"durable_objects": { "bindings": [{ "name": "DocsAgent", "class_name": "DocsAgent" }] },
"migrations": [{ "tag": "v1", "new_sqlite_classes": ["DocsAgent"] }]

How retrieval works

Each message runs a Vectorize query and a lexical scan over the KV chunk catalog, then merges them — so chat still answers when Vectorize is empty, cold, or erroring. rankHits dedupes by slug + heading and boosts the page the reader is currently on. Citations ride on the response stream's messageMetadata.

The agent is a retrieve-then-generate loop with no client tools; it answers only from retrieved excerpts.

Models are pinned: @cf/baai/bge-m3 for embeddings, @cf/meta/llama-3.3-70b-instruct-fp8-fast for chat.

Indexing

Push a built index into KV + Vectorize from your Worker:

import { syncDocsIndex } from "@prompton-dev/agent";

const result = await syncDocsIndex(env, payload); // { pages, chunks, vectors, warnings }

Vectorize failures are collected in warnings rather than thrown — KV lexical search keeps the site answering. Generate payload with @prompton-dev/indexer.

Also exported

retrieve, rankHits, citationsFromHits, lexicalSearch, loadChunksFromKv, consumeRateLimit, clientIp, docsSystemPrompt, CHAT_MODEL, EMBEDDING_MODEL.
