Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@pulseflow/mcp

Agent bridge for Pulse Flow. It only calls Pulse HTTP APIs with a personal connection key from Settings → Connect your agent. It never needs the database key.

You do not download or fork the Pulse app. npx fetches this package.

Connect (owners and managers)

  1. In the live app, create a connection key (pfmcp_…).
  2. Paste the OS-specific block into your client’s mcp.json (Cursor: MCP: Open User Configuration). Prefer Copy config in Settings so the key is already filled in.

Mac

Paste as-is. /bin/zsh -lc loads your shell so npx is on PATH (Homebrew included).

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "pulse": {
      "command": "/bin/zsh",
      "args": [
        "-lc",
        "source \"$HOME/.zshrc\" >/dev/null 2>&1; export PATH=\"/opt/homebrew/bin:/usr/local/bin:$PATH\"; exec npx -y @pulseflow/mcp"
      ],
      "env": {
        "PULSE_MCP_TOKEN": "pfmcp_PASTE_YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

Windows

Keep the short npx snippet (Cursor already sees npx):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "pulse": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@pulseflow/mcp"],
      "env": {
        "PULSE_MCP_TOKEN": "pfmcp_PASTE_YOUR_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}
  1. Turn pulse on. In Cursor, use Agent mode and ask: “Who am I in Pulse, and list my villas.”

You need Node.js 20+.

Publish (maintainers)

Scoped packages need an npm account that can publish under @pulseflow, with 2FA enabled (passkey / Touch ID is fine — npm no longer requires an authenticator-app OTP).

Do not use --otp= unless you still have a legacy authenticator app. Do not rely on “Bypass 2FA” tokens for publish (changelog).

cd mcp
npm login
npm run pack:check
npm publish --access public

When prompted, open the browser URL and confirm with fingerprint / passkey. For CI later, use trusted publishing (OIDC).

Environment

| Variable | Required | Default | |---|---|---| | PULSE_MCP_TOKEN | yes | — | | PULSE_BASE_URL | no | https://app.pulseflow.site |

For local app development: "PULSE_BASE_URL": "http://localhost:3000".
