Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@purityjs/core

v0.1.0

Published

Minimal, lightweight, super performant web framework using native signals

Readme

@purityjs/core

The core Purity framework. 17 functions. 6 kB gzipped. No virtual DOM.

Install

npm install @purityjs/core

API

Reactive Primitives

import { state, compute, watch, batch } from '@purityjs/core';

const count = state(0);
count(); // read → 0
count(5); // write → 5
count((v) => v + 1); // update → 6
count.peek(); // read without tracking

const doubled = compute(() => count() * 2);

watch(() => console.log(count())); // auto-track, runs immediately
watch(count, (val, old) => {}); // explicit, skips initial
watch([a, b], ([va, vb], [oa, ob]) => {}); // multi-source

batch(() => {
  a(1);
  b(2);
}); // single flush

Templates

JIT compiled: html tagged literals → parse → AST → codegen → cached DOM factory.

import { html } from '@purityjs/core';

html`
  <div class=${() => (active() ? 'on' : 'off')}>
    <p>${() => count()}</p>
    <input ::value=${text} />
    <button @click=${save} ?disabled=${() => !valid()}>Save</button>
    <ul>
      ${each(
        () => items(),
        (item) => html`<li>${() => item()}</li>`,
      )}
    </ul>
  </div>
`;

| Syntax | Meaning | | ------------------- | ----------------------------------------- | | ${() => signal()} | Reactive text | | @event=${fn} | Event listener | | :prop=${val} | One-way prop binding | | ::prop=${signal} | Two-way binding (input, checkbox, select) | | ?attr=${bool} | Boolean attribute | | .prop=${val} | DOM property |

Components

Custom Elements with Shadow DOM. Registered globally by tag name.

import { component, slot, onMount, onDestroy, onDispose } from '@purityjs/core';

component('p-card', ({ title }, { default: body, header }) => {
  css`
    .card {
      padding: 1rem;
    }
  `;

  onMount(() => console.log('ready'));
  onDestroy(() => console.log('gone'));

  return html`
    <div class="card">
      <h2>${title}</h2>
      ${header()} ${body()}
    </div>
  `;
});

Scoped slots — expose data from component to consumer:

component('p-form', (_props, { default: body }) => {
  const isValid = compute(() => true);
  return {
    view: html`<form>${body({ validate: isValid })}</form>`,
    expose: { validate: isValid },
  };
});

// Consumer
Form({}, ({ validate }) => html` <button ?disabled=${() => !validate()}>Save</button> `);

Scoped Styles

Shadow DOM handles scoping inside components. Reactive values auto-update.

css`
  .title {
    color: red;
  }
`;
css`
  .box {
    background: ${() => (dark() ? '#333' : '#fff')};
  }
`;

Control Flow

import { match, when, each } from '@purityjs/core';

when(
  () => ok(),
  () => html`<p>Yes</p>`,
  () => html`<p>No</p>`,
);

match(() => status(), {
  loading: () => html`<p>Loading...</p>`,
  error: () => html`<p>Error</p>`,
  success: () => html`<p>Done</p>`,
});

each(
  () => items(),
  (item) => html`<li>${() => item().name}</li>`,
  (item) => item.id,
);

Teleport

import { teleport } from '@purityjs/core';

teleport('#modal-root', () => (visible() ? html`<div class="modal">Open</div>` : null));

Lifecycle

onMount(fn); // after DOM insertion (microtask)
onDestroy(fn); // on unmount
onDispose(fn); // register cleanup (auto-called on unmount)
onError(fn); // error boundary

Mount

import { mount } from '@purityjs/core';

const { unmount } = mount(() => html`<p-app></p-app>`, document.getElementById('app')!);
