Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@raulmoracode/icons

Icon library for RaulMoraCode projects.

Installation

npm install @raulmoracode/icons

Usage

import { Apple, Github } from "@raulmoracode/icons";
import { Linux, Windows } from "@raulmoracode/icons";
import { Chain, Copy, CopyCheck, Globe, Mail, Share, Star, Website, X } from "@raulmoracode/icons";

function App() {
  return (
    <div>
      <Apple size={24} />
      <Github size={24} />
      <Linux size={24} />
      <Windows size={24} />
      <Chain size={24} />
      <Copy size={24} />
      <CopyCheck size={24} />
      <Globe size={24} />
      <Mail size={24} />
      <Share size={24} />
      <Star size={24} />
      <Website size={24} />
      <X size={24} />
    </div>
  );
}

Each icon can also be imported individually to keep your bundle small:

import { Mail } from "@raulmoracode/icons/Mail";

Available Icons

The icon lists and the usage example above are generated from src/icons by pnpm run generate. Add the icon file and run the command, do not edit those blocks by hand.

Enterprise

  • Apple - Apple logo
  • Github - GitHub logo

SO

  • Linux - Linux logo
  • Windows - Windows logo

Common

  • Chain - Chain link
  • Copy
  • CopyCheck - Copy with check
  • Globe
  • Mail - Envelope
  • Share - Upload arrow with tray
  • Star
  • Website - Browser window
  • X - Cross

Props

All icons accept the following props:

interface IconProps {
  size?: number | string;
  color?: string;
  className?: string;
  style?: React.CSSProperties;
}

Development

# Install dependencies
pnpm install

# Build
pnpm run build

# Check formatting
pnpm run check

# Format code
pnpm run format

# Run tests
pnpm test

# Regenerate the icon registry (src/index.ts, package.json exports, README)
pnpm run generate

# Verify the registry is up to date (runs on CI)
pnpm run generate:check

Adding a new icon

  1. Create src/icons/<group>/<Name>.tsx, the component must be named exactly like the file.
  2. Add src/icons/<group>/<Name>.test.tsx next to it, following an existing icon test.
  3. Add a single line /** Description */ JSDoc if the name is not self explanatory, it feeds the icon list above.
  4. Run pnpm run generate and commit the regenerated files.

Never edit src/index.ts, the exports map in package.json or the generated README blocks by hand, pnpm run generate:check runs on CI and fails when they are out of date. Keeping them generated means an icon PR only adds Icon.tsx and Icon.test.tsx, so two icons can be added in parallel without conflicting.
