Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Prisma driver adapter for Aurora serverless driver

Prisma driver adapter for Aurora Serverless Data Client.

Aurora serverless client provides a way of communicating with your Aurora Serverless database over HTTP which can improve connection reliability, connection management, security and also performance in a serverless architecture.

Getting started

To get started, enable the driverAdapters Preview feature in your Prisma schema:

// schema.prisma
generator client {
  provider        = "prisma-client-js"
  previewFeatures = ["driverAdapters"]
}

datasource db {
  provider     = "postgres"
  url          = env("DATABASE_URL")
}

Generate Prisma Client:

npx prisma generate

Install the Prisma adapter for Aurora and the Aurora serverless data client packages:

npm install @raymondjkelly/@raymondjkelly/prisma-adapter-aurora
npm install "@aws-sdk/client-rds-data"

Update your Prisma Client instance to use the Aurora serverless adapter:

// Import needed packages
import { RDSDataClient } from '@aws-sdk/client-rds-data';
import { PrismaAurora } from '@raymondjkelly/prisma-adapter-aurora';
import { PrismaClient } from './prisma/client';

// Setup Prisma Client using Aurora Adapter
const awsRegion = `${process.env['AWS_REGION']}` //The region that the aurora cluster is deployed to
const resourceArn = `${process.env['RESOURCE_ARN']}` //The ARN of the aurora cluster to connect to
const secretArn = `${process.env['SECRET_ARN']}` // The database secret that is used for authentication to the cluster. Your Service/Lambda will need access to this see https://docs.aws.amazon.com/secretsmanager/latest/userguide/create_database_secret.html
const databaseName = `${process.env['DATABASE_NAME']}` // The name of the database to connect to in the cluster

// Init prisma client
const client = new RDSDataClient({ region: awsRegion })
const adapter = new PrismaAurora(client, { resourceArn, secretArn, databaseName })
const prisma = new PrismaClient({ adapter });

// Use Prisma Client as normal

/**
 * Test the prisma adapter
 */
export const testAdapter = async () => {
    try {
        const id = `${randomUUID()}`;
        await prisma.user.create({
            data: {
                name: `${id}`,
                email: `${id}@test.com`
            }
        });
        const allUsers = await prisma.user.findMany();

        return { statusCode: 200, body: JSON.stringify(allUsers) };
    } catch (error: any) {
        return { statusCode: 400, body: JSON.stringify(error) };

    }
}

You can now use Prisma Client as you normally would with full type-safety. Your Prisma Client instance now uses Aurora serverless data client to connect to your database.

Test out the adapter

If you would like to test out the adapter or contribute you can use the Sandbox to quickly spin up a database and try running some queries.
