Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

@react-extra/hooks

v1.2.1

Published

Useful react custom hooks

Readme

build-badge coverage-badge license-badge

Setup

npm i @react-extra/hooks

Hooks

useLocalStorageState

This hook synchronize state with localStorage.

Example

import { useLocalStorageState } from '@react-extra/hooks'

function App() {
  const [state, setState] = useLocalStorageState(key, initialValue)
  ...
}

Parameters:

  • key: localStorage key
  • initialValue: the initial state to synchronize with the localStorage if the key doesn't exist there

useSessionStorageState

This hook synchronize state with sessionStorage.

Example

import { useSessionStorageState } from '@react-extra/hooks'

function App() {
  const [state, setState] = useSessionStorageState(key, intialValue)
  ...
}

Parameters:

  • key: sessionStorage key
  • initialValue: the initial state to synchronize with the sessionStorage if the key doesn't exist there

useAsync

const {
  isIdle,
  isLoading,
  isError,
  isSuccess,
  setData,
  setError,
  error,
  status,
  data,
  run,
  reset,
} = useAsync(initialState)

Allow you to call a Promise and set the data property with the result of the Promise once resolved, this hook indicates the status of the Promise

Parameters:

initialState: Optional object containing the initial state, by default it's value is { status: 'idle', data: null, error: null }

Return Values:

run(promise): a function that calls a promise passed in the first argument

data: contains the value returned by the promise after resolving

error: contains the error thrown by the promise

isError: a Boolean indicating if the promise rejected or not

isSuccess: a Boolean indicating if the promise succeeded or not

isLoading: a Boolean indicating if the promise is pending

status: a String indicating the status of the promise could be either 'idle', 'pending', 'rejected' or 'resolved'

setData(data): a function that mutate the data property and set the status to 'resolved'

setError(error): a function that mutate the error property and set the status to 'rejected'

reset(): a function that reset to initialState

Example

import { useAsync } from '@react-extra/hooks'

function App() {
  const { data, error, status, run } = useAsync()
  React.useEffect(() => {
    run(fetchSomeUrl())
  }, [])
  if (error) {
    return <ErrorComponent />
  }
  if (status === 'pending') {
    return <LoadingComponent />
  }
  if (status === 'resolved') {
    return <div>{data}</div>
  }
}

useSafeDispatch

This hook prevent the call of the function on an unmounted component.

Example

import { useSafeDispatch } from '@react-extra/hooks'

function App() {
  const [isLoading, setIsLoading] = useState(false)
  const safeSetIsLoading = useSafeDispatch(setIsLoading)

  useEffect(() => {
    safeSetIsLoading(true)
    asyncFunction().finally(() => safeSetIsLoading(false))
  }, [safeSetIsLoading])

  return <div>{String(isLoading)}</div>
}

In the example above if the App is unmounted before asyncFunction is finished its execution the safeSetIsLoading will not call the setIsLoading witch allows to avoid the error of:

- Warning: Can't perform a React state update on an unmounted component.
- This is a no-op, but it indicates a memory leak in your application.
- To fix, cancel all subscriptions and asynchronous tasks in a useEffect cleanup function`.
