Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Baton — multi-agent work collaboration for macOS (beta)

Readme

Baton — macOS beta

Baton is a local multi-agent workspace for coordinating tasks, reviewing deliverables, and managing work across development, marketing, operations, and other roles. This package includes the Baton-modified Paperclip server and browser UI.

Package: @rickyma27/[email protected]
Update channel: @rickyma27/baton (channel: beta)

Requirements

  • Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 15 or newer. Intel Macs are not supported by this package.
  • Node.js 24.11.0 or newer, with npm.
  • Your own provider CLI installations and logins for the agents you choose. No credentials or task data are included.

This beta has been tested on macOS 26.4.1 with Node 26.8.2. macOS 15 is the selected minimum and is enforced at startup; macOS 15 hardware testing is still pending.

npm downloads five pinned, unmodified platform packages for PostgreSQL, Codex, Claude Agent SDK, sharp, and libvips. Baton code, workspace changes and patched dependencies are bundled in this package. Allow npm install scripts so the PostgreSQL package can create its local library aliases; installation does not create a database or read your provider credentials.

First start

Run in Terminal using a new, dedicated data directory:

npx --yes @rickyma27/[email protected] start \
  --data-dir "$HOME/Baton-beta-data" --port 3130 --initialize

Then open http://127.0.0.1:3130 in your browser. Keep Terminal open while using Baton. --initialize creates an embedded PostgreSQL database and local signing/encryption configuration. It is only accepted for an empty directory.

Stop with Ctrl+C and wait for the process to exit. To start the same installation again:

npx --yes @rickyma27/[email protected] start \
  --data-dir "$HOME/Baton-beta-data" --port 3130

The server binds only to 127.0.0.1. The existing development directories ~/.baton and ~/.paperclip, and port 3100, are reserved and refused by this beta launcher.

Inspect

npx --yes @rickyma27/[email protected] --version
npx --yes @rickyma27/[email protected] inspect --data-dir "$HOME/Baton-beta-data"

Beta update limits

The UI can manually check the public npm update channel. Installing a newer version, background services, automatic restart, and automatic rollback are not implemented in this beta. Existing data is bound to its package name, version and build ID; a different build refuses to reuse it until the migration/update path is qualified. Keep using the pinned version above for that data directory.

Task data, attachments, settings and keys live outside the npm installation. Removing or replacing the npm package does not remove that data. Do not delete the data directory to update. Global provider CLI login directories are not copied or modified by this launcher.

Background heartbeat scheduling, product telemetry and announcements are disabled by the launcher. Normal task execution remains subject to the configured agent, tool and approval policies.

License and provenance

Baton contains modified Paperclip code under the MIT license; see LICENSE. Third-party licenses and font, icon, role-template and Cliplab notices remain with their files. THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md and release.json identify the bundled dependencies, upstream revision and build provenance.
