Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Stop typing ssh commands by hand. sshpick reads your ~/.ssh/config, lists your servers, and connects you in one keystroke.

npm package: @rifqiadhi/sshpick | npm install -g @rifqiadhi/sshpick

Install

git clone https://github.com/rifqiadhis/sshpick.git
cd sshpick
npm link

Or from npm:

npm install -g @rifqiadhi/sshpick

Or run directly:

node bin/sshpick.js

Usage

sshpick # interactive picker
sshpick <host> # connect to a saved host
sshpick <user>@<host> [-i key] # ad-hoc connect, passed straight to ssh
sshpick add <name> ... # save a host to ~/.ssh/config
sshpick edit <name> [user@host] [-i key] [-p port] # update a saved host
sshpick rm <name> # remove a saved host
sshpick rename <old> <new> # rename a saved host
sshpick --list # list saved hosts

Editing and removing hosts

# change fields in place (only the given ones are updated)
sshpick edit my-vps [email protected] -p 2222
sshpick edit my-vps -i ~/.ssh/new_key.pem

# or edit the config in $EDITOR
sshpick edit my-vps

# rename the alias
sshpick rename my-vps web-prod

# remove it
sshpick rm my-vps

Adding hosts

Feed it the ssh command you normally type:

sshpick add my-vps --from "ssh [email protected] -i ~/.ssh/id_ed25519"

# or directly
sshpick add my-vps [email protected] -i ~/.ssh/id_ed25519
sshpick add db-server [email protected] -p 2222

This appends a standard block to ~/.ssh/config:

Host my-vps
  HostName 203.0.113.10
  User adi
  IdentityFile /home/you/.ssh/id_ed25519

So plain ssh my-vps keeps working too.

Connecting

sshpick # pick from the list
sshpick my-vps # connect to a saved host
sshpick [email protected] -i ~/.ssh/id_ed25519 # one-off

Picker keys

| Key | Action | |---|---| | up/down or j/k | navigate | | typing | filter hosts | | Enter | connect | | e | open ~/.ssh/config in $EDITOR | | esc / q | quit |

Notes

  • Reads HostName, User, Port, IdentityFile from ~/.ssh/config, including Include directives.
  • Saved hosts are plain ssh config entries, so they work with the ssh command as usual.
  • Keystrokes typed while the picker is open are flushed before the connection starts, so nothing leaks into the remote session.

Config

Set SSHPICK_CONFIG=/path/to/config to use a different ssh config file.
