Optimize Toolset

I’ve always been into building performant and accessible sites, but lately I’ve been taking it extremely seriously. So much so that I’ve been building a tool to help me optimize and monitor the sites that I build to make sure that I’m making an attempt to offer the best experience to those who visit them. If you’re into performant, accessible and SEO friendly sites, you might like it too! You can check it out at Optimize Toolset.

About

Hi, 👋, I’m Ryan Hefner  and I built this site for me, and you! The goal of this site was to provide an easy way for me to check the stats on my npm packages, both for prioritizing issues and updates, and to give me a little kick in the pants to keep up on stuff.

As I was building it, I realized that I was actually using the tool to build the tool, and figured I might as well put this out there and hopefully others will find it to be a fast and useful way to search and browse npm packages as I have.

If you’re interested in other things I’m working on, follow me on Twitter or check out the open source projects I’ve been publishing on GitHub.

I am also working on a Twitter bot for this site to tweet the most popular, newest, random packages from npm. Please follow that account now and it will start sending out packages soon–ish.

Open Software & Tools

This site wouldn’t be possible without the immense generosity and tireless efforts from the people who make contributions to the world and share their work via open source initiatives. Thank you 🙏

Strict TypeScript base configuration for React and Node.js Rockpack projects

Readme

@rockpack/tsconfig

Strict TypeScript base configuration for React and Node.js projects.

Install

npm install @rockpack/tsconfig --save-dev

Use

{
  "extends": "@rockpack/tsconfig",
  "include": ["src"]
}

For Node.js code without the DOM libs extend @rockpack/tsconfig/tsconfig.node.json.

What it turns on

tsconfig.json:

  • Type checking: strict (including strictPropertyInitialization), exactOptionalPropertyTypes, noUncheckedIndexedAccess, noPropertyAccessFromIndexSignature, noImplicitReturns, noImplicitOverride, noFallthroughCasesInSwitch, useUnknownInCatchVariables, forceConsistentCasingInFileNames and skipLibCheck.
  • Modules: module: ESNext, moduleResolution: bundler, verbatimModuleSyntax, esModuleInterop, resolveJsonModule and allowImportingTsExtensions.
  • Output: target: ESNext, jsx: react-jsx, lib: ["ESNext", "dom", "dom.iterable"], sourceMap, preserveConstEnums, removeComments: false and newLine: lf.

tsconfig.node.json extends it with lib: ["ESNext"] (no DOM) and types: ["node"], so the project needs @types/node installed.

Neither config sets outDir, rootDir, noEmit or types (except ["node"] above). TypeScript 6 loads no @types package unless it is listed in types, so add the ones your code uses, for example "types": ["node", "jest"].

Because of allowImportingTsExtensions (import { a } from './a.ts'), tsc accepts the config only with noEmit, emitDeclarationOnly or rewriteRelativeImportExtensions. That fits projects where a bundler or Babel emits the JavaScript and tsc only checks types or writes declarations. To emit JavaScript with tsc, set "allowImportingTsExtensions": false or "rewriteRelativeImportExtensions": true.

strictPropertyInitialization is no longer turned off: it follows strict, so class properties must be initialized or declared with !. Set it to false in your tsconfig.json to keep the old behavior.

Because of noPropertyAccessFromIndexSignature, index signatures are read with brackets, for example process.env['API_URL']; webpack and dotenv still inline them. Set the flag to false in your tsconfig.json to turn it off.

Entry points

The package has an exports map, so only these paths resolve:

  • @rockpack/tsconfig and @rockpack/tsconfig/tsconfig.json - the base config
  • @rockpack/tsconfig/tsconfig.node.json - the Node.js config without the DOM libs
  • @rockpack/tsconfig/package.json

Other paths, including @rockpack/tsconfig/tsconfig.node without the .json extension, fail with File '...' not found.
